Qualifications

Position Summary

The Quality Inspector is responsible for performing visual, dimensional, and functional inspections throughout the manufacturing process to ensure products meet customer requirements, engineering specifications, and Company quality standards. This position has the authority to accept or reject materials, components, and completed work based on established quality requirements and plays a critical role in maintaining McNish Water's commitment to quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Major Job Responsibilities

The Quality Inspector is responsible for performing quality inspections throughout the manufacturing process and maintaining testing and inspection records. This position has the authority to accept or reject work based on established quality standards and specifications.

Essential responsibilities include:

  • Performs visual, physical, and dimensional inspections of weldments, fabrication, machining, assembly, sandblasting, painting, packing, and shipping.
  • Inspects completed and in-process work to ensure compliance with contract drawings, bills of material, specifications, and Company quality standards.
  • Measures and verifies dimensions using appropriate inspection tools and instruments.
  • Identifies quality issues, documents nonconforming work, and communicates concerns to the appropriate department.
  • Has the authority to accept or reject parts and components based on established quality requirements.
  • Maintains accurate inspection records, quality reports, and rejection records.
  • Communicates inspection findings and quality concerns to supervisors and appropriate department personnel.
  • Communicates with other departments throughout the Company to resolve quality issues.
  • May communicate with outside vendors, fabricators, suppliers, customers, inspectors, and other third parties as necessary.
  • Participates in Tier 2 meetings and related cross-functional reporting activities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
2. Knowledge, Experience, and Training
  • Five or more years of manufacturing experience in a similar industry, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to read and understand manufacturing drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Ability to use inspection instruments and measuring equipment.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality standards.
  • Computer proficiency required, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify quality issues accurately.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and make sound decisions regarding quality and safety.
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI) preferred.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) preferred.
  • OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Certification preferred.
  • ISO 9001 Internal Auditor Training preferred.

Work is primarily performed in a heavy manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, fumes, odors, dust, machinery, welding operations, and other hazards typical of a manufacturing facility. Work is primarily performed indoors, although occasional outdoor work may be required.

The employee is required to follow all Company safety policies and procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Travel may be required based on business needs.

Contacts Inside and Outside the Company

This position requires regular communication with employees and supervisors throughout the Company. The employee may also communicate with outside vendors, fabricators, suppliers, customers, inspectors, and other third parties as necessary.

Performance is evaluated based on:

  • Thoroughness and accuracy of inspections.
  • Ability to identify and properly document quality issues.
  • Compliance with Company quality and safety standards.
  • Timeliness and accuracy of inspection records and reports.
  • Effective communication of quality and safety concerns.
  • Ability to maintain acceptable levels of inspection-related field problems.
Report Preparation

The Quality Inspector is responsible for maintaining accurate and timely:

  • Inspection records and reports.
  • Deviation reports
  • Corrective action reports
  • Quality rejection and nonconformance records.
  • Other quality related documentation as required.
Physical and Visual Demands

The physical demands of this position may include:

  • Walking and standing for extended periods.
  • Sitting as needed to complete inspection and administrative duties.
  • Lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Pushing and pulling.
  • Climbing and balancing.Bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Working in and around manufacturing equipment and structures.
  • Visually inspecting components for quality, workmanship, defects, and dimensional accuracy.
Compensation
Pay Range: $21.00 - $35.00 per hour

Compensation will be based on experience, skills, qualifications, and certifications.

Candidates with experience in welding inspection, fabrication, machining, blueprint interpretation, dimensional inspection, and quality systems may be considered for compensation at the higher end of the pay range.

Preferred Certifications
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI)
  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI)
  • OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Certification
  • ISO 9001 Internal Auditor Training

Candidates possessing one or more of these certifications may be considered for compensation at the higher end of the pay range, or above the posted range, based on applicable experience and demonstrated expertise.
