Job summary

GCM Medical and OEM, Inc. seeks a seasoned Quality and Inspection Manager to lead the QA/inspection function in a fast-paced manufacturing environment in San Jose, CA.

You will drive continuous improvement, ensure ISO9001:2008 and ISO13485:2003 compliance, manage a skilled team, and partner with Engineering and Operations to deliver quality products on time.

Strong leadership, communication, and coaching are essential to develop staff and maintain production quality across shifts.

Qualifications

  • 5 to 10 years of progressive operational and management experience in Quality and Inspection.
  • Relevant industry experience.
  • Proven track record in the management of quality assurance and inspection.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Develop and plan inspections by setting priority and assigning appropriate skill level to produce a quality product in spec and on time.
  • Implement processes to improve ability to inspect product, with consistent and appropriate results in relation to requirements.
  • Communicate and implement company policies, procedures, and objectives; facilitate the flow of fact-based information.
  • Continuous improvement activity using DMAIC or PDCA cycles.
  • Recommend improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures, and working conditions.
  • Establish maintenance requirements for equipment and facility in conjunction with Engineering and Maintenance personnel; ensure timely maintenance is performed and proper records are maintained.
  • Assess employee performance, provide feedback, and conduct performance reviews; implement corrective actions when warranted.
  • Identify and implement coaching, training and development to upgrade employee skill levels.
  • Measure and manage productivity and allocation of resources, including overtime and hiring.
  • Review inspection procedures to ensure optimum output and alignment with resources and departments.
  • Maintain interface with other operations supervisors and departments to optimize production and process improvement.
  • Work to continuously improve safety, quality, productivity and cost reduction.
  • Support ISO9001:2008 and ISO13485:2003 certification and compliance.
  • Ensure safety and OSHA compliance.
  • Be a team player as measured by peers.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Continuous improvement activity using the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve & Control (DMAIC) methodology or Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) cycle
  • Recommend improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures, and working conditions
  • Establish maintenance requirements for equipment and facility in conjunction with Engineering and Maintenance personnel. Ensure timely maintenance is performed and proper records are maintained
  • Assess employee performance, provide frequent constructive feedback to employees, and conduct performance reviews. Implement corrective and disciplinary action as warranted
  • Identify and implement necessary personnel coaching, training and development to upgrade and maintain employee skill levels to keep pace with current and future company requirements.
  • Measure and manage productivity and the allocation of resources, including the control of overtime and hiring of personnel
  • Review inspection procedures to ensure optimum output from resources, employee relations
  • Maintain effective interface with other operations supervisors and other departments (i.e., Engineering, Purchasing, Customer Service) to optimize production and process improvement activity
  • Work to continuously improve in all areas such as safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction
  • ISO9001:2008 and ISO13485:2003 certification and compliance

  • Must be a team player as measured by his/her peers

Requirements
REQUIRED
  • 5 to 10 years of progressive operational and management experience in the Quality and Inspection function.
  • Relevant industry experience
  • Proven track record in the management of quality assurance and inspection

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting/Standing/Walking
  • Approximately 50% is spent seated at a desk, working on the telephone or at a computer terminal
  • Approximately 50% is spent bending, squatting, standing, or moving about the work area
Speaking/Hearing
  • Ability to speak read and write English fluently
  • Clear diction, correct grammar and acute haring are necessary for effective communication with clients, vendors, management, and other employees
Vision
  • Corrected vision close to 20/20 is necessary to effectively use computer screens, read reports and responding to correspondence and emails

Working conditions are normal for an office/manufacturing environment. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
