We are seeking an experienced Quality Inspection Supervisor to lead inspection operations for an established aerospace manufacturing facility in Macomb, Michigan. Reporting directly to the Site Quality Manager, this position will supervise more than 20 quality professionals supporting both day- and night-shift operations.
The ideal candidate combines strong people leadership with hands-on knowledge of aerospace inspection, AS9100 requirements, GD&T, blueprint interpretation, precision measurement, metrology, calibration, and First Article Inspection. This person will oversee daily inspection activities while improving capacity, efficiency, compliance, and product quality in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise 20+ quality inspectors and technicians across day- and night-shift operations.
- Provide daily direction, staffing oversight, training, coaching, and performance management.
- Support Final Inspection, Receiving Inspection, First-Piece Inspection, Gauge Control, Metallurgical Lab, GMM, and CMM inspection functions.
- Establish measurable performance expectations and monitor employee development.
- Ensure inspection staffing and priorities support production schedules and on-time delivery.
- Attend daily Tier 3 meetings and provide updates on quality issues, priorities, and assigned action items.
- Communicate and elevate customer or product-quality concerns to the Site Quality Manager and executive leadership.
- Support Material Review Board activities, product dispositions, and customer concession submissions.
- Develop and implement measurement systems that improve inspection efficiency, capacity, and throughput.
- Support new-product launches and develop inspection plans that ensure compliance with customer and engineering requirements.
- Manage calibration and metrology activities to ensure instruments and gauges are verified at required intervals.
- Maintain and improve Verification in Process procedures and feedback loops throughout manufacturing.
- Manage inspection stamps and ensure employees are properly trained and qualified to accept product.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, written instructions, diagrams, and production schedules.
- Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, and Quality leadership to establish product-quality and reliability standards.
- Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of the site’s quality-management system and related documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Technology, Mathematics, or another related STEM discipline.
- At least six years of relevant quality, inspection, metrology, or manufacturing experience.
- Previous experience supervising quality inspectors, metrology technicians, CMM inspectors, or a comparable technical team.
- Strong aerospace manufacturing and AS9100 experience.
- Advanced knowledge of GD&T and engineering blueprint interpretation.
- Experience developing inspection requirements and plans based on customer and engineering specifications.
- Demonstrated First Article Inspection experience; AS9102 knowledge is strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting New Product Introduction or manufacturing program launches.
- Knowledge of CMM inspection, precision measurement, gauge control, calibration, and metrology practices.
- Strong understanding of basic, intermediate, and advanced quality tools.
- Proven ability to coach employees, manage performance, and lead organizational change.
- Ability to prioritize multiple time-sensitive issues in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
