Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs is offering a Quality Engineering Internship in New Carlisle, IN. You will support the Metallurgical lab, safety programs, and data-driven studies while gaining hands-on experience in steel production processes.

As an intern, you will work with engineering leaders to develop solutions, participate in testing and calibration activities, and explore potential pathways to full-time roles within the company.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in Bachelor of Science program in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, or related technical degree
• Completion of at least sophomore year by summer 2027
• Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis

Responsibilities

• Complete monthly safety inspections and safety observations for the Metallurgical Department.
• Work safely and follow plant safety policies.
• Manage workflow in the mechanical and chemical test lab.
• Manage test equipment calibrations.
• Create operating efficiencies to maintain production, testing, and shipping with lean workforce.
• Maintain Steelmaking spectrometer lab, calibration, and on-call support.
• Data-mining investigations on metallurgical grade performance and chemistry.
• Metallurgical grade maintenance and development.
• Manage 3rd party testing inspections.
• Track Steelmaking scrap, referrals and diversions.
• Conduct Metallurgical investigations.

As a Quality Engineering Intern at Cleveland-Cliffs, the projects assigned will vary based on the intern’s education level and plant location but will generally reflect the duties outlined below.

Summary of Responsibilities:

• Maintain tracking of Steelmaking scrap, referral, and diversions.
• Responsible for Metallurgical investigations.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Enrollment in Bachelor of Science program in the field of Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, or other related technical degree
• Completion of at least sophomore year of study by the summer of 2027
