Job summary

Southwest Venture Plastics in El Paso, TX is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to drive quality initiatives for automotive and aerospace molding programs. You will lead APQP/PPAP, PFMEA, control plans, and SPC, and mentor quality technicians.

The role requires a 4-year degree, 5+ years in manufacturing QA, IATF 16949/AS9100 knowledge, GD&T expertise, CMM/Micro-Vu experience, and bilingual English/Spanish.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of Quality Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience within plastic injection molding manufacturing preferred.
  • Working knowledge of IATF 16949 and AS9100 quality management systems.
  • Hands‑on experience with PPAP, APQP, PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, and MSA.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint interpretation.
  • Demonstrated experience performing root cause and corrective action investigations.
  • Hands‑on experience operating and programming CMM equipment and Micro‑vu vision systems.
  • Experience using metrology software such as Calypso or equivalent.
  • Internal auditing experience.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and quality‑related software applications.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Lead quality planning activities including APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, MSA, and SPC.
  • Develop, coordinate, and submit PPAP packages and customer‑required documentation for new product launches, engineering changes, and annual validations.
  • Conduct root cause investigations using methodologies such as 8D, 5‑Why, Fishbone, DMAIC, and other structured problem‑solving techniques.
  • Lead customer complaint investigations and corrective action activities from containment through permanent corrective action implementation.
  • Support manufacturing teams in reducing scrap, rework, and operational costs through data‑driven quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform process capability studies and statistical analysis utilizing Minitab and other quality tools.
  • Develop and maintain inspection plans, quality documentation, and product acceptance criteria.
  • Perform internal audits, process audits, layered audits, and product audits to ensure compliance with customer and industry requirements.
  • Support and participate in IATF 16949 and AS9100 certification, surveillance, and customer audits.
  • Ensure compliance with aerospace and automotive customer requirements and applicable industry standards.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Tooling, Manufacturing, and Operations teams during product launches and process validations.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to quality technicians, inspectors, and production personnel.
  • Analyze quality trends and present quality metrics to management.

Southwest Venture Plastics is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Quality Engineer to join our growing team. This position is ideal for a quality professional who combines strong quality engineering fundamentals with hands‑on metrology expertise and a passion for continuous improvement.


The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting automotive and aerospace manufacturing programs, leading quality initiatives, driving corrective actions, supporting customer requirements, and ensuring compliance with IATF 16949 and AS9100 quality management systems.


This is a high‑impact position that works closely with customers, manufacturing, engineering, suppliers, and production teams to ensure products consistently meet or exceed quality requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Program, operate, and troubleshoot Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and Micro‑Vu vision systems.

  • Develop and optimize CMM programs using Calypso or equivalent metrology software.

  • Perform dimensional layouts, first article inspections, annual validations, and capability studies.

  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications using advanced GD&T principles.

  • Support calibration systems and ensure measurement equipment compliance.

  • Provide metrology expertise and training to internal teams.
