Job summary

Materion in Westford, MA is seeking a Quality Engineer to strengthen ISO compliance and drive continuous improvement within Precision Optics and Thin Film Coatings. You will partner with Operations, Engineering, and Sales to ensure products meet internal, regulatory, and customer requirements.

The role focuses on QMS maintenance, audits, change control, and problem solving using 8D/5 Why methods, with a backing to the Quality Manager as needed. A Bachelor’s in engineering or quality is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of ISO9001/AS9100 QMS requirements; internal auditing experience required.
• Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or formal continuous improvement methodologies (certification preferred).
• Familiarity with APQP, FMEAs, SPC, GD&T, and structured problem-solving tools.
• Experience with SPC, Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing skills in problem solving, statistics, manufacturing quality, and quality principles.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve the Quality Management System to ensure ISO9001 and AS9100 compliance.
• Lead continuous improvement projects using Lean and Six Sigma methods.
• Coordinate supplier quality activities and customer quality issues.
• Provide leadership support and act as backup to the Quality Manager.
