Job summary

Ultra Clean Technology in Scarborough, ME is seeking a Quality Engineer I to plan and lead quality improvement projects, ensuring components, processes and products satisfy technical requirements.

You will analyze data, perform root-cause investigations, support internal and external audits, and drive corrective actions while mentoring staff and supporting ISO 9001 compliance.

Qualifications

  • Quality-engineering review experience to focus on meeting customer requirements.
  • Statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data and identifying trends.
  • Broad knowledge of theory and principles of statistics and statistical process control. (Black Belt preferred).
  • In-depth understanding of Quality methodologies; 8D a must.
  • Quality certifications a plus (ASQ CQE, CQA, CSSGB, CSSBB).
  • Proven ability to effectively assess and implement continuous improvement techniques to quality and manufacturing functions.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience in maintaining and improving ISO9001 System.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and Knowledge of database software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop & lead quality improvement projects, based on prioritizing metrics such as cost of quality, inspection data, and/or Customer quality escapes.
  • Utilize problem-solving methods to isolate variables and identify causes of undesired results, proposing effective options.
  • Prepare reports by collecting, interpreting, analyzing, and summarizing data and present proposals.
  • Participate in internal and external audits.
  • Perform statistical analysis to identify trends and conduct root cause analysis with site functions.
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions and implement design improvements through data analysis.
  • Mentor personnel to use lean, six sigma, project management tools.
  • Provide technical advice to MRB and manage material disposition as needed.
  • Meet/exceed internal quality goals; track key metrics like DPPM and cycle-time.

The Quality Engineer plans and coordinates quality activities in conjunction with the Site Quality Head to ensure all components, processes, and products satisfy technical requirements. Provides technical assistance to site functions to resolve processing issues and promote continuous improvement. Provides advanced product quality planning and training as necessary to support the successful launch of new parts, processes, and products. Serves as the technical liaison to internal operations to effectively resolve all issues, promote quality, productivity improvements, and cost reduction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop & lead quality improvement projects, based on prioritizing metrics such as cost of quality, inspection data, and/or Customer quality escapes.
  • Utilize various problem-solving methods and techniques to isolate variables in order to identify the cause(s) of undesirable process results. Develop solution options and propose the most effective options to optimize predictable and repeatable results.
  • Prepare reports by collecting, interpreting, analyzing, and summarizing data and present solution proposals at various forums.
  • Participate in internal and external audits.
  • Performs statistical analysis to analyze trends, and works with site functions to investigate trends, conduct root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions for processes and products.
  • Drives corrective and preventive actions, including process and product design improvements for procedural, product, or process deficiencies through the analysis of data from various sources. Generates routine reports for review by management.
  • Mentors and develops Personnel to use various lean, six sigma, project management techniques and tools.
  • Provides technical advice to material review boards (MRB), evaluates discrepant material, and decides its disposition as needed.
  • Responsible for meeting/exceeding internal quality goals and objectives.
  • Key measurements of success are:
  • Internal DPPM, as measured by in-process and final inspection.
  • Cost of quality.
  • Manufacturing/test cycle-time.

Experience Requirement
Work Experience
  • 3-5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment as a Quality Engineer. (Automotive, Aerospace, Semiconductor or Medical Manufacturing environment preferred)
Management Experience
  • Experience supervising Quality Auditors or Inspectors preferred but not required.
