Job summary

Hollister-Whitney in Quincy, IL is seeking a hands-on Quality Engineer to strengthen quality systems, improve manufacturing processes, and advance ISO 9001 certification. You will partner with Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and others to reduce defects and drive sustainable quality controls.

The ideal candidate has a technical engineering degree with 3+ years in manufacturing quality, knowledge of quality tools (8D, FMEA, SPC), and strong problem-solving on the production floor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quality Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Three or more years of quality engineering experience in manufacturing.
  • Experience with root-cause analysis, corrective action, process improvement, and quality-system documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of 8D, 5 Whys, fishbone, Pareto, FMEA, control plans, SPC, and capability studies.
  • Ability to read drawings, specs, tolerances, and engineering requirements.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and project-management skills.
  • Ability to work on the production floor and collaborate cross-dept.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; proficient with MS Office and data analysis tools.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 implementation or certification preferred.
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, APQP/PPAP, MSA, GD&T, supplier quality, or electronic QMS preferred.
  • Experience in machining, welding, fabrication, or complex manufacturing processes preferred.
  • ASQ CQE or Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support development and maintenance of the site’s Quality Management System.
  • Assist with activities to achieve and sustain ISO 9001 certification.
  • Develop and maintain quality procedures, work instructions, control plans, inspection methods, and acceptance criteria.
  • Coordinate internal and external quality audits and drive corrective actions.
  • Ensure processes and documentation meet quality standards and customer requirements.
  • Partner with Operations and Engineering to resolve quality issues on the floor.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Develop quality controls to prevent defects and reduce inspections.
  • Analyze process capability, scrap, rework, warranty data, and quality metrics.
  • Propose improvements to increase process capability and reliability.
  • Support new product/process introductions and engineering changes.
  • Apply statistical methods to monitor manufacturing performance.
  • Investigate customer complaints and coordinate containment and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain and suppliers on incoming quality, audits, and improvements.
  • Participate in Lean and CI projects to reduce waste and costs.
  • Support standardization of processes and repeatable manufacturing practices.
  • Create quality metrics, dashboards, and reporting; translate data into actions.
  • Provide quality training and coaching to staff.
