Smith+Nephew is seeking a data science/quality analytics professional to join our Pittsburgh Quality team. You will collect and analyze quality data, build dashboards, and support CAPA activities using advanced statistics and ML techniques.
You will work across R&D, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and IT to drive data-driven improvements, develop predictive models, and apply open-source models for process optimization. Travel up to 10% may be required.

Join our Quality team in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where you will apply advanced analytics, statistical methods, and machine learning techniques to help enhance product quality, optimize processes, and support our mission of improving lives through innovative medical technology.
What will you be doing?
Collect, clean, analyze, and interpret quality related data from multiple internal systems to identify trends and improvement opportunities
Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations that support quality performance monitoring and decision making
Support root cause investigations and CAPA activities through advanced analytical and statistical techniques
Build and enhance predictive models for defect detection, process optimization, productivity improvement, and quality monitoring
Explore and apply machine learning and open-source models to support quality and operational excellence initiatives
Partner with cross functional teams across R&D, Regulatory, Marketing, Manufacturing, and IT to drive data driven quality improvements
Document, standardize, and maintain data workflows to ensure consistency, reproducibility, and compliance
Participate in audits and provide data driven insights to support quality and compliance activities
Handle and analyze large datasets while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement
What will you need to be successful?
Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field. Master's degree preferred but not required
Typically, 0 to 3 years of experience through internships, co ops, academic research, or professional experience in data science, statistics, process improvement, or quality improvement
Strong analytical, statistical, and problem-solving skills
Proficiency with Python, R, and/or SQL
Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau
Understanding of quality methodologies including SPC, FMEA, and Six Sigma
Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across multiple functions
Exposure to regulated industries such as medical devices, life sciences, or healthcare is preferred
Willingness to travel up to 10%
