Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking a QC Quality Engineer in the Plutonium Infrastructure Quality group to ensure quality requirements are integrated into work through oversight and inspection during construction, maintenance, and modification activities at LANL.

The position will be filled at QE3 or QE4 level, depending on experience, with DOE Q clearance required and night or back-shift availability.

Qualifications

• Must have current or prior qualification as an American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector (for Mechanical Inspectors).
• Advanced knowledge of and experience with quality regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Advanced ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
• Advanced experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions to problems affecting QC.
• Knowledge of national consensus standards of QC such as ASME, ISO, ANSI/ASME NQA‑1, and US NRC regulatory guide series. Advanced familiarity with construction codes and standards is also required, along with applying quality requirements to construction projects.
• Advanced technical knowledge in the application of engineering, environmental, procurement, construction, testing, and operations practices sufficient to evaluate and interpret specified requirements.
• Advanced interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills (oral and written) as evidenced by successful interaction with various levels of management.
• Must be able to obtain a DOE Q Clearance, which typically requires U.S. citizenship.
• Must be able to work a night or back‑shift schedule.

Responsibilities

• Quality Engineer 3: perform Level II QC inspections, evaluate problems, and coordinate NCRC to close nonconformances.
• Quality Engineer 4: apply expert QC techniques and SPC to identify measurement methods, data collection, trends, and improvements.
