Job summary

STRATTEC SECURITY CORPORATION is seeking a Quality Engineer 2 to lead root cause analysis and corrective actions, drive PPAP readiness, and implement world-class quality systems for automotive components produced in our Milwaukee facility. You will mentor QA technicians, collaborate with design and manufacturing teams, and measure COQ and process variation to reduce scrap and improve supplier performance.

This role demands strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to quality

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is required.
  • 2 years automotive experience is preferred.
  • Proficient with MS Word/Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Lead root cause & corrective action activities to drive KPI improvement for scrap, labor, and variation.
  • Develop standardized quality systems and APQP documents to support world-class manufacturing.
  • Ensure all PPAPs for components are completed on time and documented.
  • Provide training to Quality Technicians and Auditors on RCA, CAPA, and data collection.
  • Monitor COQ metrics daily/weekly/monthly to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers to resolve quality issues and document lessons learned.

Job Description

The Quality Engineer will bring root cause & corrective action standardization, scrap reduction, and implantation of quality systems. This associate will be a leader in the QA team and ensure that all new component PPAPs are completed on time for all components manufactured in the facility. This role will be a technical leader in our organization by leading in creating strategy, identifying opportunities, establishing collaborative environments, aligning with key stakeholders, prioritizing & planning activity, measuring results and communicating & rewarding the successes. It will require working closely across multiple teams to provide cost effective solutions that are designed for manufacturing at a world class level.

This role may have supervisory responsibilities for salary associates which would include interviewing, training, creating challenging objectives, planning/prioritizing work, appraising performance, providing constructive feedback, development planning, succession planning, and working with human resources to address all disciplinary/associate issues as necessary.

Key Responsibilities & Duties
  • Lead as an expert root cause and corrective action activities to drive KPI improvement of scrap, labor, performance, and variation reduction.
  • Lead the development of standardized systems and structure to ensure world class performance which includes detailed quality instructions, APQP documents, error proofing, and automated quality control systems.
  • Perform all Quality team duties related to APQP documentation to facilitate successful component PPAP.
  • Ensure consistency in the way parts are checked, documented, and sustained in the facility.
  • Provide expert product design recommendations and feedback for new and existing components suitable for manufacturing consistently at world class performance levels.
  • Provide training material/guidance Quality Technicians and Auditors on root cause, corrective action, and data collection.
  • Monitor daily, weekly and monthly COQ metrics for opportunities.
  • Lead communication in quality problem resolution with internal and external customer base to ensure customer expectations are fully met.
  • Document and distribute lessons learned to the organization.
  • Leverage lean concepts and industry benchmarks such as visual factory, standard work, error proofing, single piece flow, six sigma, Red X, kaizen, TPM and Industry 4.0 to simplify the organization and eliminate decisions in the design, manufacture, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting processes.

Qualifications
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
  • Working knowledge of quality systems.
  • Working within ISO, QS9000 or other quality systems.
  • Assessed or managed portions of a quality system.
  • Assisted/coordinated improvements to portions of a quality system.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of variation concepts.
  • Quantifying process/system variables.
  • Recommend appropriate measurement methods.
  • Define common and special causes.
  • Demonstrated systemic problem solving methods through 8-D, 7-Phase, 5-Phase or similar disciplined approach.
  • Demonstrated effective implementation of statistical process control in a manufacturing environment.
  • Measurement system analysis of inspection/test equipment.
  • Determination of rational subgroups.
  • Identification and isolation of special and common cause.
  • Reduction of variation.
  • Demonstrated experience in statistical analysis/Significance testing/Design of experiments-Tauguchi/Reliability for validation test plans.
  • Working knowledge of advance product quality planning/Creation of flow, process failure mode analysis, control plans/Validation of flow, process failure mode analysis and control plans.
  • Able to manage multiple projects/Time management skills/Effectively communicate issues and implement solutions.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is required.
  • 2 years automotive experience.
  • Computer - MS Word/Excel.
