Job summary

Corning Inc. in Reynosa, MX, seeks a qualified Quality Engineer to strengthen our quality management system and product quality architecture in manufacturing settings.

You will develop and apply quality controls, collaborate with engineering and production teams, and drive audits, corrective actions, and Six-Sigma initiatives to ensure conformance with standards.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or equivalent technical degree in a manufacturing/engineering field.
  • Training aligned with manufacturing & engineering institute learning journey.
  • Track record of delivering results in quality.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in a technical field.
  • Project team membership experience.
  • Summer internship or progressive experience in quality.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, modifies, applies and maintains quality systems and protocols for processing materials into finished products.
  • Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing to ensure quality standards are in place.
  • Devises and implements methods for inspecting, testing and evaluating quality of products and production equipment.
  • Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes and performs statistical analysis to assess quality and responsibility for nonconforming products.
  • Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction.
  • Ensures corrective measures meet reliability standards and documentation complies with requirements.
  • Specialization areas include design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or R&D as they apply to product or process quality.
  • May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies.
  • May oversee the unit's Six-Sigma project portfolio and advise on quality tools and processes.
  • Follows standard practices and uses data to inform action.
  • Works on problems of moderate scope requiring analysis of identifiable factors.
  • Applies principles of design specifications, testing procedures, and quality standards.

Drives understanding and continuous improvements of the overall Quality Management System and Product Quality Architecture. Assures compliance of internal and external specifications and standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develops, modifies, applies and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product.
  • Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place.
  • Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.
  • Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications.
  • Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction.
  • Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements.
  • Areas of specialization include: design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality.
  • May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies.
  • May also be responsible for the unit's Performance Excellence (Six-Sigma) project portfolio, assuring the effective use of different improvement methodologies (DMAIC, Lean, DESGN, etc) toward the achievement of division or plant strategic goals.
  • In this role, would assist and coach belts and managers in project selection and implementation; and advise division/plant management and leaders on the use of Quality tools, methods and processes.
  • Follows standard practices and procedure in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.
  • Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors.
  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • Encompasses the application of scientific and technological principles concerned with the integrity of manufactured products and processes from an engineering standpoint, esp. design specifications, testing procedures, and minimum quality standards.
Experiences/Education - Required
  • B.S. or equivalent technical degree
  • TRAINING ALIGNED WITH MANUFACTURING & ENGINEERING INSTITUTE LEARNING JOURNEY
  • Track record of delivering results
  • Demonstrated knowledge in a technical field
