Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Lead quality improvement projects to reduce defects and improve process capability.
  • Monitor product/process performance using SPC; manage CAPA.
  • Maintain ISO 9001 QMS and support audits.
  • Review specs and liaise with Sales, Tech Service, Ops, and customers.
  • Support supplier quality activities and incoming material qualification.
  • Apply Six Sigma methods and data-driven problem solving.
  • Participate in safety, reliability, and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Balance multiple priorities in a chemical plant while complying with regs.

Job description

Kelly Engineering is seeking a Quality Engineer to join one of our leading clients in the Chemical / Materials manufacturing industry at their Orange, TX plant.

Role Summary

As a Quality Engineer you will play a critical role in ensuring that products meet stringent quality, regulatory, and customer requirements in a chemical/polymer production environment. You will support the site’s Quality Management System, drive continuous improvement, resolve quality issues, and collaborate closely with operations, technical services, supply chain, and customers to maintain high standards in fluoropolymer and specialty materials production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead quality improvement projects focused on defect reduction, process capability, and variation reduction in polymer manufacturing processes.
  • Monitor product and process performance using statistical tools; initiate and manage Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
  • Maintain and improve the site’s ISO 9001 (and potentially other relevant standards) Quality Management System.
  • Conduct internal audits, supplier audits, and support customer audits.
  • Review customer specifications and act as a quality liaison with Sales, Technical Service, Operations, and customers.
  • Support supplier quality activities, including incoming material qualification and periodic audits.
  • Apply statistical process control (SPC), Six Sigma methodologies, root cause analysis, and data-driven problem solving.
  • Participate in safety, reliability, and operational excellence initiatives at the Orange site.
  • Manage multiple priorities in a dynamic chemical manufacturing setting while ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical, or related technical field preferred).
  • 5+ years of relevant quality or manufacturing experience, preferably in chemical, polymer, or continuous process industries.
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
  • Experience with statistical tools (SPC), root cause analysis (e.g., 8D, Fishbone), and project management.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred:
  • Experience in fluoropolymers, specialty chemicals, or plastics manufacturing.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or similar.
  • Familiarity with customer quality requirements in automotive, aerospace, or energy sectors.
  • Knowledge of chemical process safety and regulatory compliance (e.g., EPA, OSHA).
  • Strong technical and analytical mindset.
  • Customer-focused with the ability to build cross-functional relationships.
  • Proactive, results-oriented, and comfortable working in a manufacturing plant environment.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, safety-first culture.
