A confidential metals manufacturing company is seeking a Quality Engineer to support product quality, manufacturing processes, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position works closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, suppliers, and customers to investigate quality issues, manage nonconforming material, support audits, and improve overall product and process quality.
The Quality Engineer performs engineering activities focused on controlling and improving product quality throughout the manufacturing process. Responsibilities include investigating quality issues, dispositioning nonconforming material, implementing Statistical Process Control (SPC), supporting audits, maintaining quality metrics, and participating in new product and process development.
This position requires a hands-on engineer with strong analytical, auditing, and problem-solving capabilities who can work cross-functionally to identify root causes and implement sustainable quality improvements.
Provide quality engineering support for RM, EB, PAM, VAR, and Powder products.
Support product certification and release activities, including melt releases and conversion work orders.
Disposition nonconforming materials in accordance with established quality procedures.
Support quality control requirements for new products, processes, and manufacturing technologies.
Implement and monitor Statistical Process Control (SPC) for critical product and manufacturing parameters.
Lead or participate in projects to improve manufacturing processes, instrumentation, and process controls.
Investigate customer complaints and product quality concerns.
Perform root cause investigations and develop appropriate corrective actions.
Assist with customer corrective action requests and quality-related investigations.
Monitor corrective actions to ensure effective implementation and resolution.
Identify opportunities to reduce quality issues, scrap, and manufacturing costs.
Participate in the internal quality audit program.
Support regulatory, customer, and external audits.
Assist with audit findings, investigations, and corrective actions.
Maintain accurate quality documentation and records.
Ensure quality activities comply with established procedures and applicable requirements.
Lead and support continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives.
Analyze quality and manufacturing data to identify improvement opportunities.
Initiate Management of Change (MOC) activities associated with product quality.
Support Manufacturing Process Experiments (MPE) related to quality and process improvements.
Partner with Manufacturing and Quality teams to implement sustainable improvements.
Maintain quality metrics, reports, and supporting documentation.
Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual quality reports.
Analyze quality trends and communicate findings to appropriate stakeholders.
Utilize statistical analysis tools to evaluate product and process performance.
Work closely with Manufacturing, Purchasing, suppliers, and customers to resolve quality concerns.
Communicate technical quality information to internal and external stakeholders.
Provide backup support to other Quality Department managers and engineers as needed.
Participate on a rotating basis as the weekend Quality Duty Officer.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
Experience working within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Strong quality engineering and structured problem-solving knowledge.
Experience investigating product or manufacturing quality issues.
Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC).
Strong auditing and investigation skills.
Experience with nonconforming material and corrective action processes.
High level of computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Strong analytical and data analysis skills.
Ability to work effectively with Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, customers, and suppliers.
Must meet applicable U.S. export and import control requirements.
Metals manufacturing or processing experience.
Minitab or similar statistical analysis software experience.
Strong continuous improvement background.
Experience supporting internal, customer, regulatory, or external audits.
Experience with Management of Change (MOC) and Manufacturing Process Experiments (MPE).
Microsoft Access experience.
