Job summary

Consolidated Metco in Monroe/Charlotte, NC seeks a Quality Engineer to join on-the-floor quality activities, support product launches, corrective actions, supplier reviews, and maintaining key quality documentation.

The role leads 8D problem-solving, APQP/PPAP, FMEA, control plans, and QMS knowledge; travel ~10% domestically; requires a Bachelor's in engineering and 2+ years QA experience in metal casting/automotive.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in Quality Engineering including 1 year in Metal Casting, Assembly, and automotive experience.
  • Six Sigma Certification desired.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate quality assurance activities related to product quality, audits, and customer communications.
  • Lead 8D teams through problem-solving and corrective action processes.
  • Maintain control system documents such as control plans.
  • Support APQP, PPAP, and product launches.
  • Perform root cause analysis for discrepancies and defects.
  • Develop and implement quality changes and process improvements.

Job description

The Quality Engineer will support both Charlotte and Monroe, NC plants quality / production groups through daily involvement in on-the-floor quality activities and by providing assistance in areas including but not limited to product launch, corrective action resolution, reviewing incoming supplier product, maintaining key quality documentation and communicating with customers & suppliers on quality related concerns. Addresses for both supporting locations: 13319 Carowinds Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28273 and 4515 Corporate Center Dr, Monroe, NC 28110.

  • Coordinate quality assurance activities related to product quality. This includes Product and Process auditing and inspection activities, participation on new product teams, customer communications related to quality issues, and leading 8D teams through the problem-solving, corrective action process.
  • Coordinate with customers and manage the assigned customer deck.
  • Support program launch and APQP process.
  • Maintain control system documents (i.e., control plans).
  • Lead corrective action efforts for customer, supplier, and internally identified quality complaints.
  • Standardize work instructions, FMEA’s, control systems, and traceability systems to improve manufacturing operations.
  • Root cause analysis for discrepancies and defects.
  • Develop and implement quality changes and process improvements.
  • Maintain awareness of the relevance and importance of activities and how each contributes to achieving quality objectives.
  • Prompt and regular attendance as scheduled.
  • Works safely and without injury.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Domestic travel required 10% of the time

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related field. A minimum of 2 years experience in Quality Engineering including 1 year experience in Metal Casting, Assembly, and automotive experience

Mathematical Skills

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to deal with multiple issues at any given time and be able to prioritize based on immediate urgency.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Six Sigma Certification desired.

Other Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge established through education, training, or experience of:
    • problem solving, identifying and implementing a quality strategy to meet customer requirements;
    • AND conducting root cause analysis to solve complex quality issues;
    • AND reading technical drawings.
    • Knowledge of QMS (Quality Management Systems), IATF 16949 quality management standard for the automotive industry,
    • 8D problem-solving methodology,
    • PPAP (Production Part Approval Process), and APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) principles required.
