Job summary

BWX Technologies, Inc. (BWXT) seeks a Quality Engineer to support the Nuclear Operations Group in Jonesborough, TN, onsite. You will develop QA processes, perform audits, analyze data, and create APQP Core Tool documents.

You will collaborate with Operations, Programs, Engineering, and Health & Safety, handling contract reviews, GD&T, SPC analyses, and continuous improvement while interfacing with customers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Engineering or Manufacturing required.
  • Minimum 7 years in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
  • Experience developing APQP Core Tool documentation.
  • Ability to read complex blueprints and specifications.
  • GD&T knowledge preferred and mathematics-based problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily floor quality support across programs and processes.
  • Develop and implement QA/APQP processes and documentation.
  • Conduct audits, data analysis and root-cause investigations.
  • Lead supplier and internal quality improvements with cross-functional teams.
  • Interface with customers and auditors on quality issues.

Position Overview

As our Quality Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of quality and compliance. This position will be responsible for supporting the Nuclear Operations Group (NOG) Jonesborough, in person at the NOG-J plant site. Your responeibilities will include providing quality engineering support acorss multiple programs; developing and implementing quality assurance processes; conducting audits, analyzing data to identify areas for improvement; and creating APQP documents required for the program. The Quality Engineer will be a member of a quality team at NOG-J and will report to the Sr. Manager of Quality.

Your Day To Day As a Quality Engineer
  • Provide daily floor support to troubleshoot manufacturing, inspection and test processes.
  • Works directly with other departments including but not limited to Operations, Programs, Contracts, Engineering, and Health & Safety to provide process analysis oversight on a continuing basis to enforce requirements and meet guidelines.
  • Responsible for Contract Review and quality planning on new and existing products.
  • Applies basic knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) techniques in review/release of manufacturing plans and inspection plans.
  • Prepare specifications and process parameters based on customer requirements.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining APQP Core Tool documents in accordance with contract requirements.
  • May be required to identify, design and/or order part specific functional gaging to meet contractual needs.
  • Continually looks for process improvement opportunities within the Quality department and across functional areas within the NOG-J site
  • Ensures the accuracy and integrity of the NOGJ quality documentation, inspection plans, and procedures
  • Lead investigations and use root cause analysis to improve product quality.
  • Participates in open communication with the customer on quality issues
  • Interfaces with auditors, both internal and external
  • May perform supplier quality and vendor site visits
  • Perform other duties as determined by NOG-J management
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Manufacturing discipline.
  • At least 7 years of directly related experience in an industrial or manufacturing enrivonment.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings and specifications.
  • Understanding of ANSI Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) preferred.
  • Experience developing APQP Core Tool documentation.
  • Working knowledge of milling, turning, grinding, and metal fabrication manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with gaging, performing gage R&R studies, inspiection of machine compoenents, and other inspection methods.
  • Understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods and analysis.
  • Working knowledge of Process Capability methods and analysis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
  • Must possess effective, clear, and concise verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of personnel within and outside the organization.
  • Ability to travel as requiredb y the position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Department of Defense (DOD) and/or a Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with non-destructive testing (NDT).
  • Prior experience with foundry operations.
  • Prior experience with Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma.
  • Prior experience using SAP.

Pay: $99,410 - $157,000

The base salary range for this position in Tennessee (US-TN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $99,410 and $157,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
