Job summary

BWXT, located in Euclid, Ohio, is seeking a Quality Engineer to develop and implement QA processes, conduct audits, and analyze data for continuous improvement. On-site role with responsibilities spanning inspection method development, non-conforming hardware disposition, and process improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate will hold a BS in Engineering, have strong blueprint reading, GD&T familiarity, and be prepared to obtain/maintain DOE security clearance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or other technical field is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints.
  • Understanding of ANSI Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with NDT and gaging is a plus.
  • Experience with SAP is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily floor support in the manufacturing of naval nuclear components.
  • Review and disposition non-conforming hardware.
  • Create and maintain work instructions to inspect parts per contract requirements.
  • Design part-specific functional gaging when required.
  • Review process routers and sketches for contract compliance.
  • Verify process stack calculations and ensure material traceability.
  • Review BOMs, procedures, and certifications to support shipping.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing, inspection, and test processes as issues arise.
  • Participate in lean/six sigma or process improvement initiatives.
  • Lead investigations and use root cause analysis to improve defects and scrap.
  • Present quality updates to groups and lead quality stand-downs.
  • Perform quality planning for new products and existing hardware.

Position Overview

As a Quality Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of quality and compliance. Your responsibilities will include developing and implementing quality assurance processes, conducting audits, and analyzing data to identify areas for improvement.

Location

On‑site in Euclid, Ohio

Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
  • Provide daily floor support in the manufacturing of naval nuclear components.
  • Review and disposition non‑conforming hardware.
  • Create and maintain work instructions to inspect parts in accordance with contract requirements, determining the proper inspection methods.
  • Design part‑specific functional gaging, when required.
  • Review manufacturing process routers and sketches, ensuring compliance with contract requirements.
  • Verify process stack calculations.
  • Ensure material traceability is maintained throughout processing, from raw material to delivery of product.
  • Review history book documents such as product bill of materials (BOMs), procedure lists, and product certifications to support shipping of hardware.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing, inspection, and test processes as issues arise.
  • Participate in projects such as lean/six sigma teams or process improvement initiatives.
  • Lead investigations and use root cause analysis to improve product quality related to scrap, rework, and defect reduction.
  • Present to groups of employees, lead quality stand‑downs, or communicate recent quality issues, when required.
  • Perform quality planning for new products and existing hardware.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or another technical field.
  • Entry‑level to senior candidates are welcomed; salary commensurate with experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints.
  • Understanding of ANSI Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) – preferred.
  • Familiarity with gaging and other inspection methods, including non‑destructive testing (NDT) – a plus.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as machining (milling, turning, grinding, and welding) – a plus.
  • Prior experience using SAP – a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • May be required to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.
  • Great attitude and proactive approach to identifying and solving complex problems.
Compensation & Benefits

Pay range: $70,000 – $103,000 per year, based on local market factors and experience.
