Quality Engineer – AS9100 Aerospace Manufacturing

Quality Management System
- Conduct internal audits and support customer and third-party audits.
- Lead root cause investigations involving nonconforming material, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive actions using 8D, 5 Why, and other structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Analyze quality performance metrics to identify trends and champion continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.
Supplier Quality Assurance
- Maintain the Approved Supplier List (ASL) and supplier qualification database.
- Coordinate supplier qualification and self-survey activities.
- Monitor supplier quality and on-time delivery performance on a monthly basis.
- Prepare monthly supplier performance reports, in-process and Final inspection.
- Identify adverse supplier quality trends and initiate corrective actions as required.
- Issue and manage Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) and verify corrective action effectiveness.
- Coordinate Return Material Authorizations (RMAs), rejects, and disposition activities.
Manufacturing & Inspection Support
- Coordinate with Receiving Inspection, Production, Engineering, and Final Inspection to resolve quality issues.
- Analyze receiving, in-process, and final inspection data to identify trends and drive process improvements.
- Support First Article Inspection (AS9102) and production verification activities.
- Review Internal Rejection Reports (IRRs) and determine appropriate supplier corrective actions.
Purchasing Support
- Review purchase orders to ensure customer contractual requirements and quality clauses are properly flowed down to suppliers.
- Verify supplier approval status prior to purchase order approval.
- Collaborate with Purchasing to resolve supplier quality and delivery issues.
Customer Quality
- Respond to customer Corrective Action Requests (CARs) using 8D, 5 Why, or other customer-required formats.
- Investigate warranty failures and coordinate corrective actions with suppliers and internal departments.
- Interface directly with customers regarding quality concerns, corrective actions, and supplier-related issues.
Required Technical Skills & Expertise:
- Practical knowledge of AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality management systems.
- Hands-on proficiency with precision measuring equipment (calipers, micrometers, height gages, optical comparators).
- Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, with a solid working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and applied shop math/trigonometry.
- Proven ability to apply structured root-cause methodologies (8D, 5 Why, Fishbone).
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and quality-related software systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering, or a related technical discipline (or an equivalent combination of education and hands on aerospace quality experience).
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage confidently with internal teams, supplies and customers.
- Strong mathematical aptitude.
- Experience working within an AS9100-certified aerospace manufacturing environment preferred.
