Job description

The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that aerospace products, components, and systems meet stringent quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications. This role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining quality control processes, conducting inspections, analyzing data, and collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to drive continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of aerospace standards (e.g., AS9100), problem-solving skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest levels of safety and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:
Quality System Management:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance processes and procedures in compliance with aerospace industry standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001, NADCAP).
  • Ensure adherence to customer-specific requirements and regulatory standards (e.g., FAA, EASA, or military specifications).
Inspection and Testing:
  • Perform and oversee inspections of raw materials, components, assemblies, and finished products to verify conformance to engineering drawings, specifications, and standards.
  • Coordinate and support first article inspections (FAI) per AS9102 requirements.
  • Analyze test data and inspection results to identify trends or non-conformances.
Non-Conformance Resolution:
  • Investigate quality issues, defects, and non-conformances, conducting root cause analysis (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys) and implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Document and manage non-conformance reports (NCRs) and ensure timely resolution.
Process Improvement:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers) to improve product quality and manufacturing processes.
  • Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives, such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen projects.
  • Evaluate and audit supplier performance to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Work with suppliers to resolve quality issues and improve incoming material quality.
Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate quality records, including inspection reports, certifications, and audit findings.
  • Prepare and present quality metrics and reports to management and customers as required.
Training and Compliance:
  • Provide training to production and quality teams on quality standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations related to quality processes.
Qualifications:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Industrial, or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced certifications (e.g., ASQ Certified Quality Engineer, Six Sigma Green/Black Belt) are a plus.
Experience:
  • 3-5+ years of experience in quality engineering, preferably in the aerospace, defense, or manufacturing industry.
  • Experience with aerospace quality standards (e.g., AS9100, AS9110, AS9120) and regulatory requirements (e.g., FAA, EASA).
  • Hands‑on experience with inspection tools (e.g., CMM, calipers, gauges) and quality management software.
Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and blueprint reading.
  • Proficiency in root cause analysis, statistical process control (SPC), and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and precision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and quality management systems (e.g., ERP, QMS software).
  • Experience with aerospace manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, composites, assembly).
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Knowledge of military or space‑specific quality requirements (e.g., MIL‑STD, NASA standards).
