Job summary

Qualifications

• Comprehensive understanding of ISO Quality standards related to manufacturing.
• Well versed in application of problem-solving tools (5 Whys, Ishikawa, PDCA Cycle, 8D, etc.).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Highly developed organizational skills with multitasking and deadlines.
• ERP/MRP systems experience, SAP preferred.
• GD&T knowledge per ASME Y14.5; CMM capability preferred.
• CAD skills to open/view parts and drawings; SolidWorks familiarity helpful.
• MS Office proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong engineering intuition and problem-solving with limited data.

Responsibilities

• Ensure products meet specifications and support SQDC goals.
• Lead root-cause analyses (8D) and corrective actions for non-conformities.
• Review/disposition non-conforming materials; represent BorgWarner on related issues.
• Prepare technical data and reports for management and customers to drive PPAP actions.
• Develop/maintain PFMEA, Quality Plan, and SWIs; submit deviation requests as needed.
• Interpret drawings with GD&T; perform inspections using CMM and other tools.
• Collaborate with manufacturing to implement quality improvements and cost reductions.
• Assist in design/layout and SolidWorks-driven parts validation.
• Support product development and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Coordinate machining, diagnostics, maintenance, and procedure adherence as needed.

Job description

The Quality Engineer is responsible for overseeing and executing quality engineering activities at the Hood River facility. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to develop, implement, and maintain procedures and documentation that ensure the production and quality control of all products shipped from the Hood River location. This Role reports directly to the Site Manager, with joint interaction with BorgWarner Portland’s Quality & Continuous Improvement Manager, and the Manufacturing Engineering department.Quality Assurance:Ensure every product meets specifications while championing Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) mindset.Perform/lead root cause (8D) analysis and corrective action implementation for non-conforming products.Review and make disposition on non-conforming materials and represent BorgWarner on related issues.Compile and organize technical data and prepare reports for evaluation by upper management and customer to drive process changes in a Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) environment.Develop, utilize, and maintain quality documentation including Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Quality Plan, and Standard Work Instructions (SWIs).Prepare and submit customer quality documentation, including deviation requests.Analyze and interpret engineering drawings and specifications with an understanding of GD&T principles.Conduct inspections using CMM and other precision measurement tools to ensure product dimensions and tolerances meet specifications.Identify and implement improvements with manufacturing team that improve quality, reduce product cost, and maximize customer satisfactionWork closely with the production team to solve manufacturing issues and ensure smooth operations.Provide technical assistance in design layout, detail drawing construction, and testing of manufacturing processes.Assist in the design and manufacture of mechanical parts, tooling, and assemblies using SolidWorks.Participate in product development activities to support new projects and continuous improvement.Coordinate or perform as needed, machining, process diagnostics, maintenance, repairs, calibrations and operating procedureWhat we’re looking for5-8 years' experienceComprehensive understanding of ISO Quality standards related to manufacturing.Well versed in application of problem-solving tools (5 Whys, Ishikawa, PDCA Cycle, 8D Problem-Solving, etc.)Strong written and verbal communication skills.Highly developed organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and meet deadlines.Skilled in the use of ERP/MRP systems with a preference for SAP experience.General understanding of GD&T per ASME Y14.5.Ability and experience operating a CMM preferred.Basic CAD skills with the ability to open parts and drawings to perform review and updates.Proficient with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Strong engineering intuition with the ability to work with limited information to quickly solve problems.Salary Range:$80,800 - $111,100Internal Use Only: SalaryGlobal Terms of Use and Privacy StatementCarefully read the BorgWarner Privacy Policy before using this website.
