Job summary

Magna Mechatronics, Mirrors & Lighting seeks an advanced quality engineer to plan, design, and implement quality programs for automotive projects. You will analyze processes, manage suppliers, and lead continuous improvement efforts while coordinating internal and external resources.

The role requires a bachelor’s in engineering and experience in automotive quality engineering; level II adds program management responsibilities. This in-person position offers growth within Magna's global team.

Designs, specifies, and installs quality control sampling systems, testing mechanisms, and equipment. Formulates and/or assists in formulating quality control policies and procedures and development of quality standards. Monitors and controls costs, timing, and other related aspects of projects. Serves as a liaison and coordinates activity of internal and external resources. Serves as a resource by providing a problem-solving function by initiating action to overcome obstacles as they are encountered and prevent potential quality problems. Assists internal and external contacts to resolve product and process problems. Investigates and solves manufacturing-related problems in assigned area using formal problem-solving tools. Analyzes and develops suppliers’ products to obtain maximum productivity and reviews performance in operation and provides suggestions for improvement. Champions continuous improvement efforts. Researches, recommends, implements, and administers new and/or existing quality assurance processes. Engages in comparative and competitive analysis to ensure utilization of most appropriate and beneficial techniques in each situation respectively. Performs other duties as necessary. May supervise and provide work direction to other staff.KEY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:The following duties will be performed at both levels within the progression. At level I, work is primarily routine and focused on daily workflow requirements that involve detailed engineering assignments including calculations and relatively standard tests. Guidance is provided either by instruction received on specific assignment objectives, complex features, and possible solutions; or in the form of independently evaluating, selecting, and applying established and well-defined engineering techniques, procedures, policies, or systems. Decisions involve limited risk to the organization. Primarily involves entry through intermediate level work. At level II, work is moderately complex and difficult in character and requires program/project management skills. Functioning as a highly competent engineer, work requires independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of standard company procedures and translation of technical guidance from higher level personnel into data applicable to the assignment. Decisions involve moderate risk to the organization although results may have a long-lasting impact. Primarily involves intermediate through advanced level work, moving toward complete technical competency and mastery of the field.Plans, supports, and implements total quality programs. Defines scope, plans, organizes, leads and directs technical work and departmental efforts related to quality engineering activities for new and existing programs.Designs, specifies, and installs quality control sampling systems, testing mechanisms, and equipment. Formulates and/or assists in formulating quality control policies and procedures and development of quality standards.Monitors and controls costs, timing, and other related aspects of projects. Develops cost quotations related to specifications, test equipment, and gauge requirements and communicates information to appropriate parties. Understands and adheres to schedule and budgetary requirements of projects. Reports progress as required.Serves as a liaison and coordinates activity of internal and external resources. Serves as a resource by providing a problem-solving function by initiating action to overcome obstacles as they are encountered and prevent potential quality problems.Assists internal and external contacts to resolve product and process problems. May supervise and provide work direction to other staff.QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:Level IBachelor’s degree in engineering field with understanding of advanced quality engineering practices, principles, processes, etc.; or equivalent. Previous experience in automotive industry with fixture and gauge design preferred.Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, coordinate, integrate internal data, and clearly articulate concepts, ideas, and other issues relating to advanced quality engineering.Demonstrated creativity and ingenuity to work on moderate to long-term assignments which are broad in nature. Strong organizational, project management, and leadership skills to prioritize, coordinate projects, manage conflicting needs, and deal with many issues at one time. Must be able to work independently.Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills in order to effectively communicate with internal and external contacts and represent the Company in a professional manner when performing job duties. Must have excellent interpersonal skills to exercise influence at various levels and functions.Must be able to operate standard and specialized equipment related to the job. Strong computer background with ability to calculate and analyze data, generate reports, present information, etc.Demonstrated ability to research and recommend new products and processes. Must be able to initiate implementation of continuous improvement processes.Level II (in addition to above requirements)Three years’ experience in advanced quality engineering, project/program management; or equivalent. Must have thorough and complete knowledge of respective field. Must be broadly familiar with technologies, products, customers, and programs.Demonstrated ability to work on long-term assignments, broad in nature, using a high level of originality and ingenuity. Must be able to work independently with some latitude for unreviewed action or decision.Demonstrated ability to lead and manage several large and complex projects simultaneously. Must have experience with past project financial responsibilities.
