Job summary

Laepple Automotive is seeking a dedicated Quality Engineer to join our Detroit manufacturing team. You will monitor and improve quality systems, lead problem solving, and collaborate with production and maintenance to reduce defects.

Ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree, GD&T certification, 3 years QA experience in automotive, and proficiency with MS Office tools to support continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business or related field.
  • GD&T certification.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in Quality Assurance in the automotive manufacturing industry, preferably specializing in Class A surfaces.
  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Responsibilities

  • Identify data requirements and implement data collection processes for capability assessment.
  • Investigate internal quality concerns and lead root cause analysis with preventive actions.
  • Support daily production to improve quality, reduce scrap and rework, and minimize downtime.
  • Ensure containment actions and sorting/auditing requirements are followed as needed.
  • Participate in audits and ensure quality management system compliance.
  • Train quality technicians and operators in inspection standards and critical characteristics.
  • Assist in new product launch activities (PPAP, PFMEA, DFMEA, Run-at-Rate).
  • Prepare reports using SPC, Cp/Cpk, MSA to summarize data.

Job description

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify data requirements and implement data collection processes necessary for accurate assessment of product and process capability, identify trends, and implement solutions.
  • Investigate internal quality concerns, lead root cause analysis activities using structured problem-solving tools, implement preventive and corrective actions, and verify results.
  • Support daily production activities, partnering with the team to improve quality, reduce scrap and rework, and reduce downtime.
  • Ensure containment actions and sorting/auditing requirements are effectively implemented as necessary.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, support the team in ensuring quality management system is effective, and compliance with standards are maintained.
  • Train/mentor quality technicians and production operators in inspection standards, critical characteristics, and quality specifications.
  • Assist in new product launch activities (i.e. PPAP, PFMEA, DFMEA, Run-at-Rate, etc.).
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data using quality tools such as SPC, Cp/Cpk, MSA, etc.
  • Ensure KPIs are met by working to the overall plan.
  • Adhere to workplace safety regulations.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned.

This role will work closely with cross-functional teams, especially production and maintenance, to reduce in process defects, improve process capability, and drive manufacturing excellence.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business or other related field.
  • GD&T certification.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in Quality Assurance in the automotive manufacturing industry, preferably specializing in Class A surfaces.
  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Powerpoint

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with experience presenting to cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent organizational and follow-up skills.
  • Experienced problem solver and team builder.
  • Experience developing processes, work instructions, quality alerts, and root cause analysis presentations for internal team, suppliers and customers.
  • Working knowledge of customer and supplier systems.
  • Knowledge of Material Data System.
  • Proven experience dealing with customers and suppliers.
