Job summary

Loos & Co, Inc. is seeking a Quality Engineer to support manufacturing operations, customer quality requirements, supplier quality initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts at our Pomfret facility.

This role analyzes data, investigates root causes, and implements corrective actions to sustain AS9100 compliance. You will collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Production, Suppliers, and Customers to drive product quality and process performance, including audits and supplier

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or related field required or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in AS9100-certified manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with root cause analysis, corrective actions, and structured problem-solving.
  • Experience supporting supplier quality activities, including supplier audits.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret quality data.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation, quality requirements, and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong communication and cross-department collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate quality concerns and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Lead customer complaint investigations and communicate findings.
  • Apply 8D, 5 Why, and Fishbone methodologies to solve issues.
  • Analyze quality data to identify improvement opportunities.

Quality Engineer


Job Description

Position Summary / Essential Function

The Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting manufacturing operations, customer quality requirements, supplier quality initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts. This role serves as a technical resource to identify , investigate, and resolve quality issues through data analysis, root cause investigation, and implementation of effective corrective actions.


The Quality Engineer works closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Production, Suppliers, and Customers to ensure compliance with AS9100 quality standards and drive improvements in product quality, process performance, and customer satisfaction.


Key Responsibilities

Support production operations by investigating quality concerns, analyzing defects, and implementing effective corrective and preventive actions.


Lead and support customer complaint investigations, including root cause analysis, corrective action development, and communication of findings.


Utilize structured problem-solving methodologies including 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone analysis, and other quality tools to identify and eliminate recurring issues.


Analyze quality data and trends to identify opportunities for improvement and support data-driven decision making.


Develop reports, charts, graphs, and presentations using Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools to communicate quality performance and improvement opportunities.


Support the Quality Management System (QMS) and ensure compliance with AS9100 requirements, procedures, and customer expectations.


Participate in internal audits and support external customer and certification audits as needed.


Support supplier quality initiatives, including supplier performance monitoring, supplier corrective actions, and supplier improvement activities.


Partner with Purchasing and suppliers to address quality concerns and ensure purchased materials meet company and customer requirements.


Conduct or support supplier audits and evaluations as required .


Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Operations teams to improve processes, reduce defects, and enhance overall product quality.


Support continuous improvement initiatives through data analysis, process evaluation, and implementation of quality improvements.


Assist with inspection methods, quality documentation, and process improvements as needed.


Maintain accurate quality records and documentation in accordance with company procedures.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering , Quality, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience considered.


Experience working in an AS9100-certified manufacturing environment.


Experience with root cause analysis, corrective actions, and structured problem-solving methodologies.


Experience supporting supplier quality activities, including supplier corrective actions and audits.


Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, interpret, and communicate quality data.


Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables, data analysis, and creation of charts and reports.


Ability to interpret technical documentation, quality requirements, and manufacturing processes.


Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments, suppliers, and customers.


Preferred Qualifications

Experience in an ISO 13485 regulated manufacturing environment.


AS9100 Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor certification.


Six Sigma training or certification.


Experience with statistical analysis, SPC, process capability studies, or other quality engineering tools.


Experience in cable, wire, or precision manufacturing environments.


Experience with ERP systems and electronic quality management systems.


Physical / Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing environment with regular exposure to production equipment, noise, moving machinery, and varying temperatures.


Frequent interaction with production areas and manufacturing personnel is required .


Ability to spend time on the production floor supporting quality investigations and process improvements.


Occasional travel may be required for supplier visits, customer meetings, audits, training, or company meetings.


Flexibility to work additional hours as needed to support production requirements and quality initiatives.


Ability to work with computers, inspection equipment, and measurement tools.


Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while in production areas
