Loos & Co., Inc. in Pomfret, CT is seeking a dedicated Laborer to support the Maintenance department with stocking, cleaning, inspections and preventive tasks.

This 1st shift (7:00am–3:30pm), Monday–Friday, requires forklift operation, adherence to safety policies, data entry into company systems, and teamwork to keep production flowing; a high school diploma and forklift certification are preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

1st Shift: 7:00am-3:30pm

The essential function of the Laborer is to assist with the efforts of the Maintenance department through stocking, preventative maintenance, cleaning, inspections, and other tasks and duties as assigned.

• Under close supervision, performs manual duties which includes the stocking of products, retrieving or shipping of products, materials and supplies in accordance with standard practices and procedures. Performs manual tasks to prepare product or machinery to continue processing.
• Under limited supervision, operates company vehicles such as vans, forklifts and/or autos to perform a variety of pick up, delivery duties and errands. Loads, unloads and transports materials, products, equipment and/or tools within the company. Utilizes manual and/or mechanical materials handling equipment, as needed.
• Reports any malfunctions or abnormalities to supervisor/s or technician/s.
• Executes and performs housekeeping and facility tasks including trash, scrap, recycling and the like.
• Conducts and records preventative maintenance.
• Cleans work areas and machinery.
• May be required to work in other departments, as needed. May assist with inventory control. Inputs timely and accurate data into the company's computer databases, if applicable.
• Communicates on a regular basis with supervisor/s, technician/s and co-workers regarding the production, procedures and issues regarding production.
• Attends and constructively participates in team meetings as scheduled.
• May suggest, collaborate and implement/improve on effective work methods, machinery, documentation, materials, safety and team projects that could improve products, people, profits and lower cost and scrap. Assist in monitoring production quality. May assist in the entry level training and acclimatization of new employees.
• Follows company and safety policies and procedures. Performs all work on or above a satisfactory level and in a safety conscious manner.
• Performance will be measured by initiative, adaptability, attendance and compliance with supervisors/company/safety policies and procedures, rating of housekeeping, effective communication with peers.

Qualifications

• Able to read, write and/or communicate the English Language in an understandable manner with various levels of personnel. Must have good customer service practices. Able to read, understand and work from work orders, material lists, specs, inspection standards, inventory documentation, part numbering system and detailed instructions. Able to make minor decisions as to the quality and operation of equipment, machinery and product.
• Able to operate forklifts, safely.
• Able to identify, to make independent decisions and/or take action when circumstances warrant. Able to work autonomous and as part of a team. Able to take responsibility for one's action which includes, conduct, attitudes, quality and quantity of work, communication, accuracy and timeliness, and the like. Respectful of others, courteous attitude and cooperative with co-workers. Able to constructively communicate and take a positive approach.
• Competent, which is defined as currently able to perform the job, experienced, intelligent, ethical and having growth potential. Able to act decisively and quickly when necessary.
• Must have a high school diploma/G.E.D or equivalent experience
• Must have or acquire Forklift Certification. Company will assist
• Must have or acquire computer skills for the company's computer program.
• Must be 18 years of age or over. Must comply with the company's Drug, Alcohol Abuse and Firearms Policy.

Physical Work Environment

• Able to walk and stand, on average80% to 99%of the time on a concrete floor.
• Stand, walk and lift shipments on average 30 to 50 times per shift, lifting up to 70 pounds by hand. Repetitive body movements in the movement of product/s. Proper body mechanics and lifting techniques, required.
• Able to cut wire with hand cutters using approximately 20 pounds of downward pressure with momentum.
• Visual inspection and monitoring of machines, products and the like. Eye-hand-foot coordination essential. Requires 100% concentration and alertness.
• Works in a manufacturing environment (plant/office) focused on cleanliness and safety in accordance with OSHA and company standards. Works in a climate where temperatures vary.
• May be subject to injury from scratches, bruises, punctures or burns from equipment/materials. May be subject to manufacturing chemicals. Personal Protection Equipment is required, as needed.
• May be expected to work beyond normal working hours, on weekends, holidays and on other shifts when necessary.
