Job summary

Bodycote is seeking a Quality Engineer to base in Camas, WA, performing essential heat-treatment QA under the Quality Manager. You will ensure customer specs are met, manage calibration, audits, supplier reviews, and nonconformances, and drive corrective actions across operations.

Ideal candidates possess a technical engineering degree, 5+ years in manufacturing quality, strong English, ITAR eligibility, and knowledge of AMS2750/AS9100 standards in a heavy industrial setting.

Qualifications

  • ITAR compliance requires US citizenship or permanent residency.
  • Engineering or technical degree preferred with five years in manufacturing quality.
  • Must read/write English and document quality procedures.
  • Experience with heat treatment and quality systems is desired.
  • Knowledge of AMS2750 and AS9100 is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and address conditions affecting product quality and initiate corrective actions.
  • Coordinate interdepartmental efforts to meet QA requirements.
  • Maintain calibration program and temperature equipment; review test reports.
  • Lead 8D, fishbone, and 5-Why investigations for nonconformances.
  • Monitor supplier evaluations and outside processing quality.
  • Assist in contract review and final inspections; generate certificates.
  • Promote safety, EMS compliance, and good housekeeping.
  • Savvy change management and risk-based decision making in projects.

Position Summary:

Based in Camas, WA the Quality Engineer will perform essential job functions associate with heat treatment under the direction of the Quality Manager to meet customer specifications including assisting other employees as needed.

Essential Job Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):

The primary duties consist of, but are not limited to the following.

  • Management responsibility includes assuming the duties of the Quality Manager in his/her absence.
  • Identifying and recording present or potential conditions that would have a detrimental effect on product, process, or the quality system and initiating corrective or preventive action procedures to address these conditions and verifying the effectiveness of corrective actions. May include controlling or stopping further processing of product until corrective action has been satisfactorily implemented.
  • Coordinating the interdepartmental efforts required to comply with quality assurance requirements.
  • Identifying quality training needs and taking steps to ensure training is provided.
  • Reporting and communicating on the performance of the quality system to management for review and as a basis for improvement of the quality system.
  • Ensure compliance with change management processes, uphold risk management best practices, and integrate risk-based decision making in projects and improvements.
  • Ensure processes and product comply with AMS2750 regulations, AS9100 standards, and customer specifications.
  • Assist in general quality activities including control of quality records, monitoring quality objectives at all levels, implement, monitor, and maintain the BMS, evaluation/disposition of nonconformances, audits (on site and internal), configuration and support of the SCADA operating system.
  • Monitor and maintain the instrument calibration program, temperature calibration, and equipment qualification. Review test reports.
  • Perform and/or coach others to perform robust root cause corrective action to eliminate repeat quality issues, including the completion of 8Ds, fishbones, 5-Whys, and other problem solving methods as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain outside processing including evaluation of suppliers, generating purchase orders, and review certifications of conformance.
  • Perform and/or support the contract review process and the final inspection process, generating certifications as required.
  • Practice and promote safety and good housekeeping.
  • Must work in a manner consistent with the EMS.
  • Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co-workers, understand and follow rules and procedures and accept constructive criticism.
  • Perform other tasks as designated by position.
  • This position is responsible for the care and treatment of our customer’s inventory and as such will perform duties in a safe and responsible manner to prevent customer loss or damage.

  • This position must satisfy ITAR compliance requirements, therefore candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident Card Holders.
  • Education - Must possess basic operations, quality systems, or metallurgical knowledge obtained through formal university or college training or combination of training and experience. Engineering or technical degree preferred.
  • Five years’ experience in manufacturing or special services Quality Systems and practical knowledge of commercial heat treatment desired.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to read, write and communicate the English language to interface with management and all levels, both in-house and at customer’s place of business
  • Must be capable of writing general procedures for heat treatment of specific alloys, in accordance with customer needs.
  • Must be capable of making written recommendations for improving Quality System and Procedures.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain Six Sigma Green Belt.
  • Knowledge and hands on experience of computer applications including Microsoft Office and databases is required
  • Must be able to read/interpret blueprints/specifications, be detail oriented to meet deadlines.

  • Must be able to work in a sitting and standing position for extended periods of time in an office/industrial environment
  • Manual dexterity to perform data entry functions
  • Ability to bend, pull, stoop and reach to perform functions
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, and humidity, etc.
  • Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions
  • Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
  • Ability to hear in person and via phone
