Job summary

Becton, Dickinson and Company is seeking a Quality Engineer to support manufacturing quality and regulatory compliance at the Broken Bow, NE facility.

You will lead or participate in Kaizen teams, analyze defects, apply Six Sigma/Lean tools, and coordinate with R&D and production to meet quality standards.

The role requires a BA/BS in science or engineering and relevant device manufacturing experience; strong communication and adaptability are essential.

  • BA/BS Degree in Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Medical device manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Preferred 1–2 years of relevant experience; internships, co-op, and projects considered.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional work.
  • Flexible and adaptable to day-to-day responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a resource to work groups and project teams on quality/regulatory issues.
  • Leads or participates on Kaizen teams to improve quality and reduce waste.
  • Investigates and provides engineering solutions to quality-related manufacturing issues.
  • Maintains familiarity with manufacturing processes to evaluate defects and trends in quality.
  • Provides input for projects using FMEA, risk mitigation, plant validations, DOE.
  • Leads projects using continuous improvement tools (Six Sigma, Lean).
  • Works with all departments to maintain high quality standards.
  • Formulates and implements policies relating to product quality and process control.
  • Ensures compliance with government regulations (OSHA, EPA, FDA, ISO) and company policies.
  • Coordinates machine and process capability studies and submits recommendations.
  • Designs and assists in new product/process evaluations including Hazard Analysis.
  • Coordinates communication between Division R&D and Plant for new products and improvements.
  • Participates in Engineering and Production functions to achieve plant objectives.
  • Performs other duties such as internal audits and safety initiatives.

Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Acts as a resource to work groups and project teams, within the plant and outside the plant relative to quality and regulatory issues.

  • Leads or participates on Kaizen teams to improve quality and reduce waste.

  • Investigates and provides engineering solutions to quality related manufacturing issues.

  • Maintains familiarity with manufacturing processes and products to evaluate the cause and effect of defects and identify trends in process and product quality.

  • Provides technical input for projects using the application of FMEA’s, risk mitigation, plant validations; DOE’s’ and other experiments and investigations as assigned.

  • Lead projects using the application of continuous improvement tools and methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean, etc.

  • Works with all departments to maintain the highest quality standards.

  • Formulates, reviews and implements policies and procedures relating to product quality and process control as appropriate.

  • Ensures that all activities comply with government (OSHA, EPA, FDA, ISO, etc.) regulations and corresponding company policies/procedures including activities and programs as defined in the Quality Systems Manual for BD Broken Bow.

  • Coordinates machine and process capability studies, analyzes the data and submits recommendations.

  • Designs and assists Production, Engineering and Division in the completion of new product/process evaluations including Hazard Analysis.

  • Coordinates communication between Division R&D and Plant personnel on new products, product improvements and product issues.

  • Participates in Engineering and Production functions as required to achieve the overall objectives of the Plant.

  • Performs other duties as assigned, such as Internal Audits, PIR/CFI investigations. Supports plant safety initiatives

Minimum Requirements:
  • BA/BS Degree in Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Medical device manufacturing experience preferred.

  • Preferred 1-2 years of relevant experience; however, internships, co-op experience, and relevant engineering projects will also be considered.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across diverse teams.

  • Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to support a variety of day-to-day responsibilities.
