Job summary

Smith+Naphew is seeking a data science professional to join the Quality team in Pittsburgh. You will apply advanced analytics, statistics, and machine learning to improve product quality and optimize processes, partnering across R&D, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and IT.

The role emphasizes dashboards, predictive models, and CAPA support, with 0–3 years of related experience and a strong foundation in Python, R, SQL, and data visualization. Travel up to 10% is possible, with a hybrid work model.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a data-related field or equivalent
• 0–3 years of experience in data science, statistics, process improvement, or quality improvement
• Strong analytical, statistical, and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency with Python, R, and/or SQL
• Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau
• Understanding of quality methodologies including SPC, FMEA, and Six Sigma
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across functions
• Exposure to regulated industries such as medical devices, life sciences, or healthcare is preferred
• Willingness to travel up to 10%

Responsibilities

• Collect, clean, analyze, and interpret quality data across systems to identify trends and opportunities
• Develop dashboards, reports, and visualizations for quality performance monitoring
• Support root cause investigations and CAPA with advanced analytics
• Build predictive models for defect detection and process optimization
• Apply machine learning to support quality and operational excellence
• Partner with cross-functional teams to drive data-driven improvements
• Document and maintain data workflows for reproducibility and compliance
• Participate in audits and provide data-driven insights
• Handle large datasets and identify continuous improvement opportunities
