Responsibilities and Tasks
- Perform routine tests on materials, goods in process, or finished goods, comparing results with company quality standards. Report findings to line mechanics or supervisors for analysis and action.
- Conduct visual inspections for obvious defects.
- Perform detailed visual inspections to determine product quality when limits are not clearly defined. Remove defectives and return acceptable products to the line.
- Notify supervisors when inspection data exceeds acceptable limits or when major quality issues are observed.
- Record inspection results on forms or charts, report defect counts, and maintain quality data documentation.
- Recommend disposition of questionable products to supervisors.
- Potentially serve as quality control department clerk, maintaining all quality records.
- May act as scrap collector, removing tested samples from inspection stations.
Education and Experience
- Dexterity and precision in operating gauges and testing equipment.
- High school or technical education, with emphasis on mathematics.
- Considerable mental and visual effort required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Certifications
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, flow, layout, and production equipment.
- Strong quality orientation and attention to detail.
- Problem analysis and resolution skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to train employees.
- Computer proficiency preferred, especially in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Lean manufacturing experience.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and measure with a tape measure.
- Ability to perform simple percentage calculations and log data.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work on a PC as needed.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods during work shifts.
