Job summary

Capital Materials is seeking a QC Tech for the 2026 paving season to perform quality checks on asphalt materials and ensure compliance with specifications. The role covers Danville and Femme Osage Quarry sites and includes day travel to additional quarries when night shift is not operating.

You will conduct tests, record results, and interact with the QC Manager and Roadway Technician. Must be able to work outdoors, follow safety policies, and support the team in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in quality control testing or lab work.
• Ability to perform precise measurements and calculations.
• Willingness to travel to quarries and work outdoors in varying weather.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections, tests, and reports for asphalt material quality.
• Operate and maintain lab equipment and record results accurately.
• Cut cores, test aggregates and asphalt, and calculate properties.
• Communicate results to QC Manager and team in a timely manner.
• Attend to safety policies and environmental hazards on site.

This position will cover the Danville and Femme Osage Quarry and also travel to several quarries during day at times if the night shift is not operating.The Quality Control Lab Technician performs inspections, checks, and tests for quality of the material to be utilized in the manufacturing of asphalt, ensuring product quality and compliance with applicable specifications.RESPONSIBILITIESProvides verbal and/or written tests results and reports to the QC Manager and staff.Enforce quality control and Company safety policies on all aspects of the workCut core samples from roadway and test in a timely mannerConducts tests on aggregate and asphaltPerform mathematical calculations to verify physical and volumetric propertiesCommunicate daily with QC Technician/Manager and the Roadway TechnicianCalculates pay factors and tonnage totals on daily lab reportsResponsible for set up, adjustment and operation of laboratory/testing equipment.Work around industrial equipment and machinery to obtain materials samples.Record test results in a timely manner.Report and communicate test results internally and externally (DOT and other customers as required).Clean, maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment. Inspect stockpiles for proper construction; inspect haul units for cleanliness; Maintain test data files; assist in investigating and resolving customer technical problems.Demonstrates knowledge of, or the ability to learn, safety rules and equipment including identification of precautions for and emergency response to chemical, electrical, and mechanical hazards, and asphyxiating, toxic and explosive gases and vapors.Demonstrates good workmanship in a neat and timely manner.Must be able to work in a variety of positions throughout the day including standing, stooping, bending at the waist, at waist level, shoulder height and above the head. The job location is in all areas as required in our geographical work area.Participate as a team member. Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisorREQUIREMENTS:Previous QC experience in a similar setting is a plus but not mandatory.Ability to work independently under strict time guidelines.Proven track record of completing jobs while meeting all safety/budget/schedule goals.Maintain a flexible work schedule allowing for travel to different facilitiesMust have a valid driver’s license.Subject to drug screening and a medical review exam.The employee will work primarily outdoors, exposed to inclement weather, and in the proximity of chemical, electrical and mechanical hazardsThis is a full-time, benefits eligible position.
