What is a Quality Control Technician?

The Quality Control Technician is responsible for ensuring a product or service meets the established standards of quality including reliability, usability and performance required. This is a first‑shift position with hours from 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will be capable of greater than 75 % of the Quality Department Responsibilities such as various Non‑Destructive tests (NDE), calibration duties, receiving and in‑process inspection duties, documentation collection, management and analysis.

Inspection/Testing Duties
  • Perform various Non‑Destructive testing (NDE) and document results.
  • Coordinate testing with Team Leads, Production Planners, and Product Managers.
  • Interpret and implement required testing/inspection requirements.
  • Testing includes visible contrast solvent removable Dye Penetrant (PT), Visual Examination (VT), visible contrast AC Yoke Magnetic Particle (MT), Hardness, Ferrite, Positive Material Identification (PMI) X‑Ray film/reports (RT).
  • Perform testing and document results in accordance with the Company’s procedures, drawings, test equipment capabilities and Sales Order requirements.
  • Utilize company inventory and tracking system to confirm testing required.
Calibration Duties
  • Create, maintain, and edit data identifying the status of gaging that require calibration.
  • Basic understanding of metrology tools.
  • Basic understanding of blueprints/drawings specifications.
  • Preparing, setting, and adapting metrology equipment for use.
  • High level of organization, accuracy, attention to detail and service to machining centers.
QC Inspection/Receiving Duties
  • Perform receiving tasks of general inspection, counting, review to material specification and applying the part number identification and quality control numbers on received goods and documentation.
  • Assure products are compliant with purchase order requirements.
  • Must make quality decisions on whether product is acceptable or rejectable.
  • Ability to write up non‑conforming product per established ISO procedures.
  • Prep and review ASME Code Quality Plans (travelers) for final inspections– assure accuracy and completion of all documentation (i.e., MTRs, test reports).
  • Review and process outsourced NDE documentation (PT, MT, RT).
  • Assist in moving accepted products to stock locations per inventory control requirements.
  • Complete Supplier Dimensional Inspection Reports of received/accepted products per QMS requirements.
Document Preparation Duties
  • Collect, organize, create, scan and/or save documents and data.
  • Review supplier documents (i.e., MTRs, certs) for traceable identification numbers, clarity and legibility.
  • Ensure proper storage of all documentation and accessibility.
  • Review and verify all testing requirements on purchase orders are complete and accurate.
  • Create and attest to certifications, testing, traceability, and conformance of product.
  • Complete and prepare end‑user documentation packets per purchase order.
Other Duties
  • Comply with all safety procedures in each area assigned, including but not limited to wearing protective clothing, special handling of chemicals, special handling of product, safety/rescue equipment usage, etc.
  • Interact and communicate with all levels of employees within the Company, as well as suppliers, customers and peers effectively.
  • Comply with policies, procedures, standards and rules of the Company.
  • Maintain quality assurance policy consistent with ISO standards.
  • Maintain work area in a clean, orderly and safe manner.
  • Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance.
  • Perform all other job‑related duties as assigned.
Required Experience and Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Able to read, write, and follow verbal instructions in Standard English. Technician at this level is capable of greater than 75 % of the Quality Department Responsibilities such as various Non‑Destructive tests (NDE), calibration duties, receiving and in‑process inspection duties, documentation collection, management and analysis.
  • Five years related manufacturing experience required.
  • One year of Non‑Destructive Testing required.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend documents that define the use of test equipment.
  • One year experience in receiving of in‑bound products preferred.
  • Understanding material specifications (ex. – ASME, ASTM).
  • Familiarity with ISO Quality Management Systems required.
  • Working knowledge of calibration tools and inspection equipment preferred.
  • Basic geometric dimension and tolerance experience required.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, perseverance and trouble shooting.
  • Ability to understand technical specifications.
  • Proficient in MS Office products and Adobe Acrobat preferred.
  • Ability to work and multi‑task with limited supervision.
Physical and Technical Environment
  • Must regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds, using proper lifting techniques.
  • Regularly required to walk or stand, bend or twist, climb, reach with hands or arms.
  • Must respond to changing requirements and working conditions. Utilize small and large tools, hoists, dollies, and other devices when necessary. Exposure to noise, dust, heat and cold on a regular basis.
  • Manual dexterity and mechanical inclination to work with all sizes of machinery and parts.
  • Specific vision requirements include close vision, including passing of the Jagger II vision acuity screening.
