Quality Control Technician, DeQuincy, Louisiana
Interfor is seeking energetic and enthusiastic team players to join our team as a Quality Control Technician in DeQuincy, Louisiana. The starting rate for this position is $22.95 per hour, with the potential to grow to $30.59 per hour based on skill level and experience.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as the primary liaison for the communication of Quality Control procedures pertaining to lumber grading standards.
- Responsible for the overall training and development of graders.
- Evaluate and provide feedback on the lumber grading and inspection program.
- Meet with lumber inspectors to conduct lumber inspections and ensure proper grading techniques.
- Maintain effective communication with graders to provide continuous feedback.
- Perform pack checks on graders to ensure they remain on grade and identify areas for improvement.
- Conduct grader training sessions, communicate issues, and evaluate solutions.
- Inspect #3 and #4 lumber sheds for defects and communicate findings to management.
- Perform wane inspections on 2x6 to 2x4 lumber to verify proper edging techniques.
- Analyze quality data and collaborate with supervisors and management to identify improvement opportunities.
- Work with the Quality Control team and Mill Manager to develop and implement quality control strategies.
- Participate in machine center studies to identify operational and quality improvements.
- Perform weekly moisture content readings to monitor drying processes.
- Follow safety procedures to prevent injuries and participate in safety analyses.
- Engage with customers and visit other mill sites as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors or crew leaders.
What You Offer
- 6-10 years of experience in lumber operations preferred.
- SPIB Certification required or completed within the required timeframe.
- Computer and statistical skills are preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of interacting with management and external stakeholders.
- Legal ability to operate a licensed motor vehicle.
- Ability to move within the mill environment.
- Flexible working hours and ability to manage changing priorities.
- Ability to reason and communicate effectively with individuals who may not always be rational.
