Job summary

P&K Stone, Llc is seeking a Quality Control Technician to perform hourly testing of aggregates in a fast-paced quarry environment. You will collect samples, operate lab equipment, record results, and communicate findings with production teams to ensure material quality and compliance.

You will perform sieve analyses, moisture checks, and other tests per state specs, maintain documentation, and assist with audits and safety training.

Qualifications

  • Ability to conduct hourly testing of aggregate materials to ensure compliance with quality, gradation, and size specifications.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, including scales, shakers, ovens, and Mary Ann sieves.
  • Skill in safely collecting field samples from quarry sites, stockpiles, and production areas.
  • Competence in accurately recording, entering, and reporting test results using spreadsheets, Word documents, and email.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with coworkers, production staff, and management regarding quality issues or material adjustments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hourly gradation testing on aggregates, including sieve analysis, moisture content, specific gravity, and other quality indicators.
  • Operate and calibrate laboratory equipment such as mechanical shakers, ovens, scales, pycnometers, and Mary Ann testing apparatus.
  • Properly label, prepare, and store samples to ensure traceability.
  • Conduct specialized tests as required by project specifications or state agencies.
  • Collect representative samples from quarry faces, stockpiles, conveyor belts, and production sites using proper sampling techniques.
  • Maintain awareness of quarry operations and terrain hazards to ensure safe sampling.
  • Communicate sampling results or concerns promptly to plant personnel.
  • Accurately document all test results in spreadsheets, digital forms, and quality databases.
  • Prepare and distribute daily, weekly, or project-specific quality reports.
  • Identify trends or inconsistencies in material gradation and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain organized files and logs for audits and compliance.
  • Work directly with production teams to address material inconsistencies and help adjust plant settings as needed.
  • Communicate any quality issues promptly to minimize waste, rework, or non-conforming products.
  • Participate in team meetings, safety briefings, and training sessions.
  • Assist with maintaining the laboratory in compliance with state certification programs and internal quality assurance procedures.
  • Support audits or inspections by regulatory agencies or customers.
  • Keep the laboratory, equipment, and workstations clean, calibrated, and properly maintained.
  • Prioritize workload based on production demands and deadlines.
  • Help train new team members or temporary staff in testing and sampling procedures.
  • Follow all safety policies, wear required PPE, and report hazards immediately.
