Our client is a well-established precision manufacturing company serving demanding technology and industrial markets throughout the Bay Area and beyond. Our operations specialize in the manufacture of complex, tight-tolerance components and assemblies requiring a high level of dimensional accuracy, process control, and documentation. We are seeking an experienced Quality Control Supervisor to lead the day-to-day activities of our inspection department at our San Jose manufacturing facility. This is a hands-on inspection leadership position responsible for supervising inspectors, coordinating inspection priorities, supporting production, and ensuring manufactured components meet drawing, customer, and internal quality requirements.

Position Summary

The Quality Control Supervisor will oversee daily inspection activities across incoming, in-process, first article, and final inspection. The position will provide technical direction to inspectors, assign work based on production priorities, review inspection results, and help resolve dimensional or quality issues with manufacturing and engineering personnel. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in precision machining inspection and dimensional metrology, along with previous experience leading or supervising inspectors in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and provide day-to-day direction to Quality Inspectors and other inspection personnel.
• Coordinate inspection workload and priorities to support production schedules and customer delivery requirements.
• Oversee incoming, first article, in-process, and final inspection activities.
• Review engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T requirements, inspection plans, and customer quality requirements.
• Provide technical guidance to inspectors regarding inspection methods, measurement techniques, drawing interpretation, and acceptance criteria.
• Ensure inspectors are using appropriate calibrated measurement equipment and following established inspection procedures.
• Support dimensional inspection using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, optical measurement equipment, CMMs, and other precision metrology equipment.
• Review inspection results and documentation for accuracy and completeness.
• Assist with first article inspections and associated documentation.
• Work closely with machinists, manufacturing leadership, engineering, and quality personnel to investigate dimensional discrepancies and resolve inspection-related issues.
• Identify nonconforming product and ensure appropriate documentation, segregation, and escalation procedures are followed.
• Support investigations into recurring dimensional or workmanship issues and help implement corrective actions.
• Train and develop inspection personnel on measurement techniques, GD&T, documentation requirements, and company quality procedures.
• Monitor inspection performance, workload, and department efficiency while maintaining a high standard of accuracy.
• Ensure inspection equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and available to support production requirements.
• Maintain an organized, professional, and safety-conscious inspection environment.
• Support continuous improvement efforts within the inspection and manufacturing operations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of quality inspection or dimensional inspection experience within a precision manufacturing or machining environment preferred.
• Previous lead, supervisory, or inspection team leadership experience strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of precision machined components and manufacturing processes.
• Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills.
• Proficiency with standard dimensional inspection equipment including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, and related precision measurement tools.
• Experience with CMM inspection and other advanced metrology equipment strongly preferred.
• Experience performing or reviewing first article, in-process, and final inspections.
• Ability to troubleshoot dimensional discrepancies and work effectively with machinists, engineers, and production leadership.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize inspection work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate inspection documentation.
• Effective leadership and communication skills with the ability to train, coach, and provide technical direction to inspection personnel.

Preferred Background

Candidates with experience supporting high-precision CNC machining operations involving complex, tight-tolerance components will be particularly well suited for this position. Experience working within structured quality systems and supporting demanding customer requirements is also highly desirable.
