Job summary

Traylor Bros., Inc. in California seeks a Quality Control Manager to oversee testing data, implement QC procedures, and ensure materials and workmanship meet contract plans and specs on complex heavy civil projects.

You will lead the QC team, develop detailed progress and post-construction reports, coordinate with internal and external customers, and manage cost-efficient quality control practices while traveling to sites as needed.

Qualifications

  • Detail oriented and well organized with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience leading quality control teams on major civil projects.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain records relating to testing data and apply quality control procedures.
  • Develop QC reports, post-construction reports, and progress reports.
  • Ensure materials, workmanship, and construction comply with contract plans and specs.
  • Coordinate with internal and external customers to address quality needs.
  • Lead QC staff to perform tests on performance, strength, and characteristics.
  • Train staff and develop quality control practices.
  • Travel as required to attend meetings and site visits.

Required Skills

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining records relating to testing data, and applying quality control procedures
  • Develop working relationship with customers, both internal and external, in order to ensure customer needs are addressed
  • Develop quality control reports, post construction reports, and detailed progress reports
  • Assure that all materials, workmanship, and construction are in full compliance with the contract plans and specifications
  • Require that defective work or materials be corrected or removed until made compliant
  • Manage the quality control organization to control the quality of products, using a variety of testing devices and procedures to maintain product quality and minimize cost
  • Lead quality staff, at specific stages in construction, to perform tests for a variety of qualities, such as performance, strength, and characteristics
  • Lead quality staff in testing and monitoring to ensure factors such as adhesion, hardness, and strength are met
  • Perform inspections as needed; prepare and maintain inspection and performance records
  • Compiles and writes training material and conducts training sessions on quality control activities
  • Set up practices to monitor and control quality; however, other factors must be considered, such as effectiveness, cost, and productivity
  • Apply substantive expertise during pre-bid, construction, and post construction phases of a project by working with plants/materials, construction, and estimating teams to ensure quality standards and project profitability are achieved.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as directed by division and corporate management. Travel as required to attend, but not limited to, meetings, site visits, training, etc. Ability to relocate as needed.

Education/Experience
