Quality Control Manager

Independence Excavating is looking to add an ambitious Quality Assurance and Control Manager to our growing team. As the Quality Control Manager, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, and overseeing project-specific quality control plans that align with company standards, specifications, and industry requirements. This role ensures compliance through site inspections, record audits, and team collaboration while managing non-conformances and promoting continuous improvement.

A typical day looks like:

  • Assist with the Development and help maintain a comprehensive quality control plan that aligns with Independence Excavating’s Executive Team’s quality requirements, project specifications and industry standards.
  • Upon project award, QC Manager will develop a QC plan in consideration of specifications, products, and critical performance requirements. Plan will be presented to the construction team and audit checklists will be generated to ensure conformance to the plan.
  • Verify on-site project engineer (or whomever is assigned) completes QC checklists for pertinent scopes of work. Conduct site inspections as needed to ensure work is performed according to IX QC plan.
  • Establish internal process to audit & accurately maintain records of inspections, materials testing, and other quality-related activities.
  • Identify and manage non-conformances, ensuring timely and effective corrective actions are taken.
  • Stay vigilant for potential hazards and develop plans to mitigate safety risks when performing high risk testing.
  • Communicate quality requirements to all stakeholders, including subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
  • Collaborate effectively with IX project managers, superintendents, and other team members.
  • Provide training to QC personnel on quality control procedures and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain a summary of project lessons learned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Do you have what it takes?

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required and associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
  • OSHA 10/30 as required.
  • Five (5) years of previous related experience is required working primarily in quality management of large commercial construction projects.
  • Must have strong organizational skills in order to handle the variety of tasks assigned.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally with employees, external vendors, owners and general contractors.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budget, schedule, people, and quality of work at multiple construction sites.
  • Must be competent to perform complete and accurate project take-offs and estimates.
  • Experience interpreting construction Contract documents and understanding requirement compliance is required.
  • Demonstrated success with project planning in analyzing risk to manage projects effectively
  • Demonstrated success with decision making concerning the job, costs, scheduling, planning and personnel within the construct of Independence Excavating’s policies and procedures.

Working Conditions:

Work is frequently performed in an office setting with controlled climate. Work is occasionally performed outdoors, often in varying weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow. The work environment could involve exposure to equipment, moving parts, uneven ground, excessive noise, dust, fumes, chemicals and heights.

Physical Requirements:

This position primarily involves sitting for extended periods, working on a computer, and performing repetitive tasks such as typing and using a mouse. Employees must be able to lift up to 10 pounds frequently and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. This position frequently involves sitting, standing stationarily, walking, balancing and reaching. Frequently hand use will require simple grasping and finger keys, with occasional firm grasp being necessary. Normal job responsibilities will require position to speak, hear, and have adequate vision capabilities including: near acuity, far acuity, depth perception, accommodation and field of vision. Work will occasionally require bending and stooping at the waist/torso, bending and twisting at the neck and head, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and climbing.
