Job description

JT Wimsatt Contracting Co has been a trusted leader in the construction industry since 1992, delivering high-quality projects on schedule and within budget. We partner with public and private sector clients to complete a diverse portfolio of commercial, industrial, residential, government, and specialty construction projects.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Quality Control Manager to support project teams throughout the Los Angeles and San Diego regions. This role serves as a key quality resource for project teams by implementing, monitoring, and documenting quality control processes that ensure our work meets contract requirements, approved submittals, project specifications, applicable codes, industry standards, and company quality expectations. This position identifies nonconforming work, recommends corrective actions, and works with project leadership to ensure quality issues are resolved before work proceeds.

The ideal candidate has strong field experience in structural concrete construction and a proven background in QA/QC, inspections, documentation, and resolving quality issues in an active construction environment. Experience working for a self-performing concrete contractor or subcontractor is highly preferred.

This position requires regular travel between Southern California project sites. A company-provided work truck and fuel card are included as part of the compensation package. Reports to the Project Executive.

We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package, including:

  • Performance-based bonus opportunities
  • Medical, dental, vision, and additional insurance options
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (DCFSA)
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) program
  • 8 paid holidays annually
  • Company vehicle and fuel card
  • Quality Ownership – Takes responsibility for maintaining high standards and ensuring work meets project requirements.
  • Communication – Clearly communicates expectations, observations, and solutions across all levels of the project team.
  • Problem Solving – Identifies issues early and works collaboratively to develop effective solutions.
  • Attention to Detail – Maintains accuracy in inspections, documentation, and compliance requirements.
  • Accountability – Follows through on commitments and drives quality outcomes.
  • Collaboration – Builds strong working relationships with field teams, clients, inspectors, and project stakeholders.
  • Adaptability – Effectively manages changing priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
Responsibilities
  • Support project teams in developing, maintaining, and implementing project-specific QA/QC plans, inspection checklists, quality procedures, and pour planning documentation.
  • Review drawings, specifications, approved submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, mix designs, and contract requirements to establish quality expectations before work begins.
  • Perform and document field inspections for structural concrete activities, including formwork, reinforcing steel, embeds, anchor bolts, sleeves, waterstops, concrete placement, finishing, curing, and repairs.
  • Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, foremen, engineers, and relevant stakeholders to identify quality risks and resolve issues proactively.
  • Verify materials, mix designs, reinforcing steel, embeds, and other concrete-related products meet approved submittals and project requirements prior to installation.
  • Coordinate and document third-party testing and special inspections, including concrete sampling, slump, temperature, air content, cylinders, reinforcement inspections, and project-specific requirements.
  • Monitor concrete placement activities to verify compliance with approved procedures, including placement sequencing, consolidation, finishing, curing, protection, and repair requirements.
  • Maintain accurate quality records, including inspection reports, testing documentation, deficiency logs, corrective actions, NCRs, and project closeout documentation.
  • Participate in pre-construction meetings, pre-pour meetings, mockups, first-work inspections, and lessons-learned reviews to reinforce project quality expectations.
  • Communicate quality concerns clearly and work collaboratively with project leadership to resolve issues while balancing schedule, cost, safety, and constructability considerations.
  • Support project closeout by organizing quality records, testing reports, inspection documentation, repair logs, and turnover materials.
  • Mentor project engineers, field engineers, and field personnel on quality expectations, inspection readiness, documentation standards, and continuous improvement practices.
