I'm leading the search for a Quality Control Lead or QA/QC Manager on behalf of our client, a general contractor that has been building across Southern California for more than a century. The role is based in Downtown Los Angeles and is a chance to own the quality program for a steady portfolio of public and institutional work across LA.
The Role
Our client delivers Best Value, Design-Build, Design-Bid-Build, and CM projects, and they're bringing on a QA/QC Manager to build, run, and continuously improve the quality program across their jobs. You'll be the point person on quality from submittals and pre-installation meetings through inspections, NCRs, and closeout, working shoulder to shoulder with PMs, Superintendents, PEs, subcontractors, IORs, and agency inspectors. This is a hands-on, field-facing role, not a desk job.
What You'll Own
- Develop, implement, and maintain project-specific Quality Management Plans aligned to the contract documents, specifications, and applicable codes
- Run the preparatory / initial / follow-up inspection process for each definable feature of work, including pre-installation meetings with subcontractors
- Coordinate and schedule inspections and testing with the IOR, DSA and other agency inspectors, special inspectors, and third-party labs, and track required inspections to closure
- Review submittals, shop drawings, mock-ups, and material certifications for conformance with the specs before work goes in place
- Perform regular field inspections and verify work in place against drawings, specs, and approved submittals
- Identify, document, and drive closure of non-conformances (NCRs), including root cause and corrective action with subcontractors
- Own quality documentation in Procore: daily QC reports, inspection logs, test results, as-built verification, and closeout/commissioning records
- Lead the punch list process and support commissioning and turnover
- Lead quality kickoffs and train project teams and subcontractors on quality expectations
- Audit quality performance across projects and report trends, lessons learned, and program improvements to leadership
What I'm Looking For
- 8+ years of commercial or public construction experience with a general contractor, including 3+ years in a dedicated QA/QC or quality leadership role
- Ground-up experience on projects of $25M+, ideally public works, education, civic, or institutional
- Working knowledge of DSA (IOR relationships, project inspection card and verified report process) and/or other California public agency requirements strongly preferred
- Strong command of the CBC and the ability to read plans and specs cold and hold subcontractors to them
- Design-Build and/or Best Value delivery experience is a plus
- Procore proficiency and a disciplined approach to documentation
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent field experience
- Nice to have: USACE CQM-C, ICC, ACI, CWI, or OSHA 30 certifications
- The soft skills matter here: you can hold the line on quality without burning relationships, and you're comfortable in front of owners, inspectors, and subs
What Our Client Offers
- $130K-$170K base salary, depending on experience
- Performance-based bonus program
- 100% employer-paid medical premiums for employee and family
- Low-cost dental and vision, life/AD&D, and long-term disability
- 401(k) with generous company match
- 3 weeks vacation, 8 paid holidays, 8 paid sick days
- Company vehicle and gas card for eligible field positions
- Employee Assistance Program, Healthy Lifestyle Rewards, and employee referral program
- A culture people don't leave: nearly 90% retention, team lunches, an annual summer social and awards ceremony, and active women-in-construction initiatives
