Quality Control Laboratory Superintendent - Decatur, IL

This position oversees the Vitamin E Plant Laboratory, working with Production, Quality Assurance, Engineering, Safety, Environment and Maintenance to ensure production needs are met and laboratory safety, environmental and quality requirements are satisfied. The role may provide support to external groups such as Commercial, Customer and Technical Services, Product Managers, and Research when needed.

Responsibilities
  • Manage Laboratory Technician issues including staffing, employee rules, disciplinary actions, training records, and provide reviews and feedback to Technicians as needed.
  • Direct laboratory daily activities including workload management, instrument functioning, and product release.
  • Lead initiatives for quality control and production issues, including method development, comparisons, validation, and process improvements.
  • Manage preventative and corrective maintenance on laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain laboratory retains and museum samples for customer complaints, recalls, withdrawals, or commercial needs.
  • Monitor a data review program for all laboratory data generated.
  • Provide mentorship for Laboratory Technicians to ensure they have the knowledge and resources to perform their job functions.
  • Maintain laboratory inventory and supplies as requested by production; perform month-end inventory assessments and track OOS or deviations; provide laboratory performance metrics to plant management as needed.
  • Lead all OOS investigations, determine and report root causes, and work with maintenance and engineering on related projects.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production to address plant issues and aid in remediation efforts.
  • Contribute to customer and certification audits, as well as regulatory inspections; assist with customer complaints, recalls or withdrawals as necessary.
  • Monitor lab spending and identify cost-saving initiatives; champion corporate-level initiatives at the laboratory level.
  • Schedule the annual lab internal audit and ensure all action items are completed from the internal audit.
  • Report food safety, quality, environmental or occupational safety issues to the Quality Assurance or other appropriate management and aid in remediation.
  • Adhere to The ADM Way directives and guidance.
  • Support Hazardous Waste operations including generation, collection, movement, inspection, recordkeeping and minimization as needed.
  • Participate as an auditor for internal plant quality audits; manage specifications and required testing for product release and in-process testing in TLC and Policy Tech.
  • Manage critical laboratory policies and operating procedures in Policy Tech; participate as a member of the Food Safety Team.
  • Participate in customer complaint, recall or withdraw issues as necessary.
  • Monitor lab spending and drive cost-saving initiatives; manage annual compensation-related programs where applicable.
  • Be listed on Certificates of Analysis as a certifier of information provided.
