Job summary

Brookside Flavors and Ingredients in New Jersey is seeking a detail-oriented Quality Control Lab Technician for a ~3-month temporary assignment within our Quality Control department.

The technician will analyze finished products, intermediates and raw materials, calibrate QC instruments, and document results while ensuring compliance with SOPs, SQF, cGMP, HACCP and FSMA. Overtime/weekend flexibility may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field required.
• Basic chemistry knowledge and general science skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Strong computer and math skills; proficient with common software.

Responsibilities

• Perform analysis of finished products, intermediates and raw materials, ensuring compliance with specifications using AOAC or approved methods.
• Calibrate and operate QC testing instrumentation safely and professionally.
• Notify QC Supervisor of unusual observations, OOS incidents, and results to prevent release of nonconforming material.
• Maintain sample retention inventory according to procedures.
• Ensure paperwork accompanies shipments of raw materials.
• Maintain an orderly and safe work area and retrievable documentation.
• Comply with SOPs, SQF, cGMP, HACCP, and FSMA requirements.
• Participate in monthly regulatory inspections and related tasks.
• Back up Quality Specialist as needed.

Position Summary

We are seeking a detailed-oriented Quality Control Lab Technician for an approximately 3-month temporary assignment within our Quality Control department.

The QC Lab Technician is tasked with conducting quality control laboratory analysis on incoming raw materials, manufactured intermediates and finished product. This position is responsible for the testing of each lot, responsible for correctly identifying issues and notifying the Quality & Food Safety Manager.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform analysis of finished products, intermediates and raw materials to check characteristics against specifications, utilizing AOAC and other approved methods to assure product quality and food safety.


• Calibrate and operate QC testing instrumentation in a safe and professional manner


• Notify QC Supervisor of unusual product observations, OOS Incidents, and analytical results during analysis to assure potential quality and food safety issues are identified, reviewed, and resolved prior to releasing product


• Maintain sample retention inventory according to procedures.


• Ensure all appropriate paperwork accompanies shipments of raw materials


• Maintain an orderly and safe work area


• Maintain retrievable and traceable system of quality documentation


• Comply with SOP’s, SQF guidelines, cGMP’s HACCP, and FSMA procedures


• Participate in conducting monthly regulatory inspections and other required tasks.

• This position is the back up to the Quality Specialist


• Ability and willingness to work overtime and/or weekends if necessary


• Good working knowledge of Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, and a comfort level of learning new systems


• Sage, Fishbowl and QuickBooks experience a plus


• Comfortable with the use of web-based systems.
