Job Title: Quality Control Inspector

Job Category: Full-Time, Hourly Position

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Reports To: Director of Quality & Manufacturing Engineering

Position Overview

Responsible for full quality inspection of complete vehicles post conversion/up fit and correction of defects found. This position reports to the Director of Quality & Manufacturing Engineering. Please be advised this is a physically demanding, plant-based job.

This position performs dimensional, visual, and functional inspections of individual components up to complete vehicles. The Quality Control Inspector partners closely with Pre Production, Engineering, Purchasing, and Manufacturing to identify nonconforming materials, support corrective actions, and promote continuous improvement throughout the complete process.

Core Responsibilities

Inspection & Quality Assurance

• Material Inspection: Verify incoming raw materials and outgoing finished products to ensure they meet customer and regulatory specifications.
  • Inspect components and complete vehicles for quality, dimensional accuracy, and compliance with engineering drawings.
  • Inspect components for dimensional accuracy, and overall conformance.
  • Inspect items and assemblies for finish quality, coverage, adhesion, color consistency, and cosmetic appearance.
• Quality Testing: Select output samples and rigorously test them using precise measuring instruments (e.g. micrometers, calipers, gauges, squares, angle finders, thread gauges) and testing software.
• Defect Documentation: Record inspection results, maintain logs, and log defective items or non-conformances into the company’s database and ERP /work order systems.
• Process Monitoring:
  • Supervise assembly and production lines to ensure they adhere to standard operating procedures and reject all products failing to meet expectations.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T (as applicable), work instructions, and inspection criteria
• Team Collaboration: Communicate findings to management and train production teams on quality measures to reduce rework and waste.

Quality Systems & Problem Resolution

• Identify nonconforming materials and initiate appropriate containment procedures.
• Clearly communicate quality concerns to Production, Engineering, Purchasing, and the Director of Quality & Manufacturing Engineering.
• Assist in root cause investigations and corrective action activities.
• Support supplier quality initiatives by documenting incoming material defects.
• Verify corrective actions have been implemented effectively.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing defects and improving manufacturing quality.
• Assist with maintaining inspection records and supporting internal or customer audits.

Production Support

• Coordinate inspection priorities to support production schedules.
• Work closely with all related departments and Engineering to resolve quality concerns.
• Perform first article inspections on new components or engineering changes.
• Verify proper identification, traceability, and disposition of inspected materials.
• Support inventory accuracy by identifying and segregating nonconforming materials.

Safety & Housekeeping

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe inspection area.
• Follow all company safety policies and PPE requirements.
• Promote a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Report unsafe conditions or quality risks promptly.

Job Categorization

This position is designated as a Safety Sensitive Position.

Education

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Technical education in Manufacturing, Quality, Mechanical Technology, or a related field preferred.

Experience

• Minimum three (3) years of manufacturing or quality inspection experience preferred.
• Experience with basic hand and power tools, mechanical and electrical systems within automotive, commercial truck or bus manufacturing preferred.

Quality & Technical Knowledge

• Attention to Detail: High focus required to spot minute flaws, operational deviations and nonconforming materials.
• Technical Proficiency: Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and technical specifications.
• Mathematical and Mechanical Aptitude: Strong basic math and mechanical skills for calibrating tools and calculating precise measurements along with solid understanding of manufacturing tolerances and quality standards.
• Experience using precision measuring equipment including:
  • Tape measures
  • Calipers
  • Micrometers
  • Combination Squares
  • Height gauges
  • Thread gauges
  • Angle measurement tools
• Working knowledge of material amalgamation processes preferred.
• Basic understanding of various fabrication and manufacturing processes, and surface and paint treatments.
• Experience using ERP systems and electronic work orders preferred.
• Excellent documentation and communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Licenses & Certifications

• Forklift certification preferred or ability to become certified upon hire.
• American Society for Quality (ASQ) (desirable)
• Six Sigma (desirable)

Physical & Environmental Requirements

• Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, twist, kneel, and lift throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently and heavier materials with assistance.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to welding operations, powder coating, industrial noise, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.
• Ability to safely operate inspection equipment and wear required PPE.
• Possess a valid Driver’s License
