Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Quality Inspector to join our aerospace manufacturing team in Santa Ana, CA. The Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring all components meet customer, engineering, and AS9100 quality standards through accurate dimensional inspection, documentation, and process verification. This role requires strong attention to detail, experience using precision measurement equipment, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications in a fast-paced, high-precision manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections on aerospace components and assemblies.
- Verify part dimensions and tolerances using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, surface plates, CMM reports, and other precision measuring instruments.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
- Document inspection results, nonconformances, and corrective actions in accordance with AS9100 and company quality procedures.
- Support first-article inspections (FAI) and generate documentation in compliance with AS9102.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve issues related to nonconforming material and process control.
- Ensure traceability and calibration status of all measurement tools used during inspection.
- Participate in internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area consistent with 5S and safety standards.
- Adhere to all company policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements (ITAR, AS9100, ISO 9001).
Skills & Qualifications
Required:
- 7+ years of experience in dimensional inspection within an aerospace or precision manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in using manual inspection tools and understanding CMM reports.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T and blueprint interpretation.
- Experience inspecting machined parts made from aerospace materials (aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, Inconel, etc.).
- Familiarity with AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality management systems.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and data accuracy.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
- Must be able to speak, read, and understand English to effectively follow written and verbal instructions, interpret documentation, and communicate safety and quality information.
Preferred:
- Experience performing First Article Inspections (FAI) per AS9102.
- Background in lean manufacturing or continuous improvement.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Full-time position: overtime may be required based on production schedules.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs safely.
- Work performed in a machine shop environment with exposure to noise, metal chips, and coolants (safety gear provided).
- Must be a U.S. person (citizen or permanent resident) in compliance with ITAR regulations.
