Summary
Inspects products at various stages of the production process and prepares reports of inspection results in accordance with quality system requirements.
Assists in the maintenance and calibration of department measuring equipment/devices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Interprets engineering drawings to determine acceptance criteria for characteristics or other features of product such as dimensions, surface finish, hardness, and product identification.
- Inspects product using precision measuring instruments or appropriate equipment and assesses product conformity throughout the production cycle.
- Prepares reports and records of inspection results in accordance with company and/or customer requirements.
- Reports internal and vendor non-conformances detected during the machining or inspection process and investigates customer complaints regarding dimensional or visual quality.
- Works with Manufacturing, Management and/or Quality Manager in the disposition and resolution of these non-conformances.
- Assists the Quality Manager in calibration of departmental measuring equipment in accordance with the company’s calibration schedule and quality system requirements.
- Works in cooperation with other departments to maintain quality management system requirements and ensure product conformity.
- Assists production with mold samples, checking mold lineups and assembling molds.
- Perform hardness checks on raw material and parts then record measured data on a hardness certification.
- Expected to clean and organize work area daily during normal hours of operation.
- Expected to work 40 hours per week during normal hours of operation unless otherwise specified by management.
Qualifications
- 5 years’ experience in quality control required.
- Ability to understand and communicate in English in both written and spoken form.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as work instructions, safety rules and procedure manuals.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Ability to read and learn to interpret engineering drawings including basic GD&T interpretation.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, thread gages, radius gages, height gages, protractors, optical comparators, etc.
- Ability to prepare routine inspection reports and write basic correspondence.
- Basic understanding of machining equipment and processes.
- Some CMM knowledge is preferred.
- Visual ability sufficient to obtain a Certificate of Visual Acuity.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds; however, lifting aids are available and should be used for any object exceeding 30 pounds. The employee is regularly required to stand, reach, bend and stoop.Walking and sitting is minimal.Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to pass a near vision and color perception exam.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving machinery such as lathes, mills, forklifts, materials being transported by crane, etc.Noise level is moderate, but continuous.Safety glasses and steel toed shoes are required at all times.Gloves are recommended while handling parts.
