Job summary

Lehigh Heavy Forge Corporation in the United States seeks a Quality Inspector to verify machined parts against engineering drawings and GD&T tolerances. You will read blueprints, operate CMMs and hand tools, and document inspection results. You will support continuous quality improvement, follow ISO procedures, and coordinate with production and engineering to resolve discrepancies while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment.

Qualifications

  • Requires reading and interpreting engineering drawings with GD&T callouts.
  • Knowledge of GD&T symbols and tolerance analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Quality System: prepare and maintain all reports, certificates and documentation for inspection.
  • Observe company policies including safety, housekeeping, and quality per ISO procedures.
  • Use quality tools to support continuous improvement across processes with a positive attitude.
  • Work from prescribed procedures, work orders, and written/verbal instructions.
  • Document inspection process and prepare reports as required.
  • Administer all inspection methods and procedures.
  • Manage workload to meet production schedules and deadlines.
  • Coordinate with production and engineering for internal and external customers.
  • Report any changes in quality or unsafe conditions to supervisor.
  • Support and maintain a positive team atmosphere.

SUMMARY

Perform various prescribed duties to inspect verify machined parts against engineering drawings and tolerances.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Quality System:
  • As per ISO procedure and standards prepare and maintain all reports, certificates and documentation pertaining to inspection.
  • Observe all company policies and regulations including safety, housekeeping, and quality of work with support of ISO procedures and standards.
  • Utilize individually and/or further the use of total quality concepts, tools, and techniques to support continuous quality improvement in all processes in which the position participates with a positive "Can Do" attitude.
General:
  • Work from prescribed procedures, work orders, written and verbal instructions.
  • Document inspection process and prepare reports as required.
  • Administer all inspection methods and procedures.
  • Manage workload to achieve production schedules and ensure completion within time frame.
  • Coordinate with production and engineering departments for internal and external customers.
  • Responsible for reporting any change in quality, unsafe operating conditions immediately to his/her supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as requested or necessary to meet business conditions and changes.
  • Support, encourage and maintain a positive team working atmosphere throughout the company.
Technical:
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) call outs.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Proficient in using Micrometers, Calipers, Height Gages, and Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM).
  • Maintain control and traceability related to inspection.
QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to five years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 - 5 years minimum experience in quality control inspection of manufactured metal products - bridge type of CMM experience is highly preferred
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints / design drawings to extract dimensional data to be checked against
  • Knowledge of GD&T symbols
LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions in English, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to use hands to feel, handle or reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
