Job summary

California Giant Inc. is seeking a QC Inspector to inspect berries according to company standards, perform grading, and document results using tablets or computers.

You should have 1-2 years in berry quality control, knowledge of food safety regulations, and the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with travel as needed and occasional cold conditions.

Responsibilities

• Inspect berries (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries) according to company standards.
• Enter reports into quality system platforms using computers or tablets.
• Follow GMP and GAP for handling of fresh berries.
• Communicate product quality issues to QA management, growers, cooling operations, sourcing and sales via email.
• Assist QA with shelf-life studies, re-inspections and lotting.
• Receive unannounced customer visits.
• Contribute to sustainability goals in daily work.
• Work safely in a fast-paced environment and recognize hazards.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary environment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job description

This position requires the ability to work collaboratively within a team as well as independently in all growing regions with little or no supervision. This California Giant QC Inspector position will inspect fruit according to California Giant standards and specifications.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities

Conduct thorough inspections and grading of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries according to company’s grading standards and specifications.

• Accurate entry of reports into quality system platforms using computers or tablets
• Follow the company’s Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP’s) for handling of fresh berries
• Send email communications about product quality to QA management, growers, cooling operations, sourcing and sales using iPad.
• Assist the QA team in other duties assigned such as but not limited to shelf-life studies, re-inspections and lotting of product.
• Receive unannounced customer visits.
• Continuously look for ways to improve sustainability practices in daily work routine and seek opportunities to contribute to sustainability goals set by the organization.
• Work safely in a fast-paced environment and recognize potential hazards around forklifts and other heavy equipment in motion.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary environment
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

1-2 years’ experience in berry quality control.

Knowledge of food safety regulations

Ability to work in varying environment conditions, including cold temperatures, as required during berry processing and storage.

Physical Requirements

This position must be able to stand for long periods of time inspecting fruit.

Must be able to lift 20-25 lbs up onto pallets of fruit at shoulder level on a continual basis throughout the shift.

This position is subject to harvesting schedules and could work as much as 9–10-hour days. Some days could be longer

This position may work up to 6 days a week during the season depending on the harvesting schedule.

Must be able to work in cold environments with temperatures as low as 32 ° F. This includes the ability to wear appropriate cold-weather gear provided by the company and maintain productivity and safety standards.
