Job summary

CalPortland in Las Vegas, NV is seeking a Quality Control Field Technician to support the Quality Manager by testing and analyzing data at project sites, helping optimize plant efficiency and product quality.

The role includes inspecting batches, sampling aggregates, and performing concrete tests per ASTM/AASHTO/DOT standards, troubleshooting issues, and coordinating with sales, operations, and drivers while maintaining safety protocol.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• ATTI and ACI certification required.
• Must obtain ACI Field Grade Certification within six months.
• Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds regularly and 100 pounds occasionally.
• Must be able to work flexible hours and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Work with plant operator on operations and efficiency.
• Inspect Batch Plant, aggregate stockpiles, and mix designs at the assigned plant.
• Adjust loads with concrete admixtures.
• Sample aggregates and perform Portland cement concrete tests per ASTM/AASHTO/DOT standards.
• Conduct moisture content, temperature, slump, density, air content, and cylinder testing.
• Troubleshoot material/quality issues and coordinate with internal teams and customers.
• Prepare job incident reports and analyze aggregate and strength reports.
• Attend pre-job meetings and work with plant operators, coworkers, and drivers.

The Quality Control Field Technician will assist the Quality Manager in optimizing the efficiency and productivity of plants by testing and analyzing data and resolving any issues at the project sites.

Responsibilities

• Work with the plant operator on plant operations and efficiency
• Inspect Batch Plant, aggregate stockpiles, and mix designs at the assigned plant
• Ability to adjust loads with concrete admixtures
• Sample aggregates and perform applicable Portland cement concrete tests (in accordance with the most current ASTM, AASHTO, and DOT standards)
• Testing to include: moisture content, temperature, slump, density, air content, cylinders, etc.
• Troubleshoot and address material/quality issues (low breaks, Schmidt hammer, cracking, coring, etc.)
• Coordinate work with internal personnel, i.e.sales, operations, customer service, and dispatch
• Prepare job incident reports
• Analyze aggregate and strength reports
• Work directly with customers
• Attend pre-job meetings
• Work with plant operators, co-workers, and drivers

Education

• High school diploma/GED
• ATTI and ACI certified

Requirements/Qualifications

• Obtain and maintain ACI Field Grade Certification within six (6) months in the position
• Job requires the following motions: climbing, bending, squatting, lifting, sitting, stretching, vibration, twisting, pushing/pulling of controls, and riding on rough terrain, use of hand tools such as wrenches and screwdrivers, driving/walking on uneven ground, and climbing stairs
• Frequent lifting up to 75 pounds, occasional lifting of 100 pounds
• May be exposed to extremes of hot or cold weather and be able to work in wet environments
• Must be able to work flexible hours with varying start and stop times
• Overtime work will be required as needed by the company
• Must meet OSHA 10 guidelines and be able to follow all CalPortland Safety Policies
• ANSI-approved PPE will be provided and must be used when required
• Must be able to speak, read, and write in English
• Able to work cooperatively with others
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable
• Techniciansubject to random drug and alcohol screens as required by the company
• May be required to perform Lab Technician duties based on business need

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) registration/clearance as well as ongoing alcohol and drug testing.
