Job summary

Mazzella is seeking a quality inspector to ensure the overall quality of manufactured products in our Westlake, OH facility. You will develop standard inspection processes, interpret fabrication drawings, use metrology tools, and verify materials meet shop drawings and AWS standards.

You will document results, support calibration and nonconforming parts processes, and collaborate with supervisors, welders, and machinists to resolve issues.

Qualifications

• Ability to read fabrication and machining drawings.
• Experience with metrology tools (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, thread gauges, hardness tester, laser alignment).
• Ensure raw materials meet shop drawings.
• Designate acceptance/rejection of machined, welded and outsourced components.
• Interface with area supervisors, machinists, and welders to coordinate repairs/replacements.
• Perform visual inspection of weldments per AWS standards.
• Oversee UT/PT/MT testing performed by others.
• Test and measure finished components for crane assembly per specs.
• Document inspection activities/results and prepare inspection reports.
• Support quality systems including document control, calibration, nonconforming parts process, CAR, management review, and internal auditing.
• Assist management to address non-conformances and ensure inspections/audits are completed.

Job description

Brief Description

In this role you will be responsible for ensuring the overall quality of manufactured products, including but not limited to developing standard quality inspection processes, monitoring quality standards, resolving defects, driving standard procedures, and creating internal and external customer required documentation. You will work independently as well as with various departments within the organization.

• Ability to read and interpret detailed fabrication and machining drawings
• Utilize various types of metrology equipment such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, thread gauges, hardness tester, and laser alignment system
• Ensure raw materials used in manufacturing processes are in conformance with shop drawings
• Designate acceptance or rejection of machined, welded and outsourced components
• Interface with area supervisors, machinists, and welders to coordinate required repairs and/or replacements as necessary
• Perform visual inspection of shop weldments verifying weldments are in accordance with shop drawings and applicable AWS standards
• Oversee ultrasonic shear wave testing (UT), liquid dye penetration (PT), and magnetic particle testing (MT) performed by others
• Test and measure finished components and sub-assemblies, verifying they are within specifications and meet fit, form and functional requirement for final crane assembly
• Document inspection activities/results and prepare inspection reports
• Support quality systems including document control, calibration, nonconforming parts process, CAR, management review, and internal auditing
• Work with management to ensure inspections/audits are completed and non-compliances are addressed
• Assist with emergency action planning and response through site plans/preparedness, regulatory records/reporting, and higher risk workplans
• Support maintenance management system procedures and implementations
• Act as a liaison between business and QSTR shared service team

• Maintain work area, equipment, and tools in a clean and organized manner; follow all Safety Guidelines
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• A high school diploma or GED is required; an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university in a related discipline is preferred.
• Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification strongly preferred; CWI must be obtained within 1 year from start date.
• Experience in interpretation of fabrication, machining, weldment, and assembly drawings and project specifications.
• Experience with various machining, welding, and assembly processes.
• A working knowledge of manufacturers and industry standards, including AWS D1.1 and AWS D14.1, is a plus.
• Previous experience in internal auditing within manufacturing field preferred.
• Requires solid written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical, conceptual, and planning skills are required.
• Overall basic IT/PC/Technology literacy a plus.
• Must be detail oriented, self-motivated, and disciplined with the ability to multi-task.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
• Must successfully complete a criminal background check, physical, drug screen and E-verify.
