Quality Control & Shop Support Technician
Job Summary:

The Quality Control Technician / Shop Support position is responsible for ensuring that completed vehicle repairs meet our standards for quality, safety, cleanliness, and customer satisfaction before the vehicle is returned to the customer.

This position is not primarily a production repair technician role. Technical work is limited to activities necessary to perform the quality control process, including inspections, verification of completed repairs, road testing, and addressing minor items associated with final vehicle delivery.

In addition to quality control responsibilities, this position supports the overall operation of the shop by assisting the front counter, receiving and managing incoming parts, researching and acquiring parts, providing customer shuttle transportation, maintaining vehicle presentation, and helping keep the facility clean and organized.

Key Responsibilities:
Quality Control & Vehicle Delivery:
  • Perform final quality control inspections on completed vehicles to verify that authorized repairs and services have been completed properly.
  • Review repair orders and technician notes to understand the customer's original concerns and the work performed.
  • Verify that the customer's original concerns have been addressed whenever reasonably possible.
  • Inspect completed repairs for workmanship, proper installation, safety, and overall quality.
  • Perform post-repair road tests as needed to verify vehicle operation, drivability, noises, warning lights, and repair effectiveness.
  • Check for fluid leaks, loose components, warning indicators, abnormal noises, or other concerns that should be addressed prior to vehicle delivery.
  • Verify that vehicle settings, components, covers, trim pieces, and other items disturbed during service have been properly reinstalled or returned to their appropriate condition.
  • Identify quality concerns and communicate them to the appropriate technician, service advisor, or manager before the vehicle is released.
  • Perform minor corrections or adjustments associated with the quality control process when appropriate.
  • Complete required quality control checklists and documentation.
  • Help ensure that no vehicle is released until known quality control concerns have been appropriately addressed.
Vehicle Mini-Detail & Final Presentation:
  • As part of the final quality control process, ensure that vehicles are returned to customers in a clean and professional condition.
Responsibilities include:
  • Vacuuming vehicle floors, mats, and seating areas as needed.
  • Removing trash and debris resulting from the repair process.
  • Wiping down the dashboard, steering wheel, center console, door panels, and other commonly touched interior surfaces.
  • Cleaning interior and exterior glass as needed.
  • Removing fingerprints, grease marks, and minor shop-related dirt from exterior surfaces.
  • Ensuring technician tools, parts, protective materials, and shop supplies have been removed from the vehicle.
  • Performing a final visual inspection of the vehicle's overall presentation prior to customer delivery.
Front Counter & Customer Service Support:
  • Assist Service Advisors and other front-counter personnel during busy periods.
  • Help check customers and vehicles in for scheduled appointments and vehicle drop-offs.
  • Record basic customer concerns and vehicle information accurately for the Service Advisor.
  • Assist with moving and staging vehicles for service and customer pickup.
  • Help prepare vehicles for customer delivery.
  • Communicate professionally and courteously with customers when assisting at the front counter.
  • Notify the appropriate Service Advisor or manager when customer questions or concerns require additional assistance.
  • Assist with answering phones and other basic front-counter responsibilities when needed.
Parts Receiving, Research & Acquisition:
  • Receive incoming parts deliveries and verify parts against invoices, purchase orders, and repair orders.
  • Inspect incoming parts for obvious damage, incorrect quantities, or incorrect applications.
  • Properly identify, label, organize, and stage parts for the appropriate repair order or technician.
  • Notify the appropriate team member of incorrect, damaged, missing, or backordered parts.
  • Assist with processing and organizing parts returns and cores.
  • Research parts using vendor catalogs, online resources, vehicle information, and other available systems.
  • Contact vendors to determine parts availability, pricing, and estimated delivery times.
  • Assist with ordering and acquiring parts as directed by management or Service Advisors.
  • Pick up parts from local vendors when necessary.
  • Help maintain an organized parts receiving and storage area.
Customer Shuttle & Vehicle Transportation:
  • Provide courteous and professional transportation for customers to and from their home, workplace, rental car facility, or other approved local destination.
  • Safely operate company and customer vehicles.
  • Pick up or deliver customer vehicles when authorized.
  • Transport vehicles for sublet services, alignments, programming, inspections, or other outside services when required.
  • Pick up parts, supplies, and other shop-related materials as needed.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and appearance while interacting with customers outside of the shop.
Shop Organization & Janitorial Responsibilities:

All team members contribute to maintaining a clean, safe, and professional facility. Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Sweep, mop, and clean shop and customer areas as needed.
  • Empty trash and recycling containers.
  • Maintain cleanliness of customer waiting areas, front-counter areas, restrooms, and other common spaces.
  • Clean spills and address potential safety hazards promptly.
  • Help maintain organization of tools, equipment, supplies, parts, and work areas.

  • Help maintain a professional shop appearance throughout the workday.
Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to safely operate both customer and company vehicles.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to recognize workmanship, safety, cleanliness, and vehicle presentation concerns.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn shop management, parts catalog, and vendor systems.
  • Ability to research automotive parts accurately.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Professional communication and customer service skills.
  • Willingness to assist wherever needed to keep the shop operating efficiently.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, reach, and work around and underneath vehicles.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to safely enter, exit, and operate a variety of vehicles.
  • Ability to work in typical automotive shop conditions, including exposure to noise, temperature changes, automotive fluids, dirt, and cleaning products.
Position Expectations:

This position serves as an important final checkpoint between the repair process and the customer. The primary responsibility is to ensure that vehicles leave the shop repaired correctly, operating properly, clean, and professionally presented.

Because this is also a shop-support position, the employee is expected to remain productive when quality control work is not immediately available by assisting with front-counter operations, parts, customer transportation, vehicle movement, cleaning, organization, and other reasonable tasks that support the efficient operation of the shop.

The successful candidate will take ownership of the final customer experience and understand that repair quality, vehicle cleanliness, organization, and professional customer interaction are all important parts of delivering excellent automotive service.

Work Hours and Compensation:

The normal work schedule for this position is Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. As needed, scheduled hours may be shifted from the normal Monday–Thursday schedule to Friday to accommodate shop cleaning, maintenance, or other operational needs while the shop is closed to customers.

Compensation is hourly and based on experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for a weekly performance bonus when established overall shop performance goals are achieved.
