Job summary

Grain Processing Corporation is seeking a Quality Control Analyst to perform analytical testing on routine and special samples, calibrate instruments, and support method development. You will work under the Analytical Services Manager and chemists to ensure accurate results and compliant documentation.

The role requires an associate degree in science (chemistry or biology) and prior lab experience. A rotating 12-hour shift includes days, nights, weekends, and holidays, with overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical testing on routine samples and special projects as directed by management.
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment; troubleshoot as needed.
  • Prepare and standardize chemicals, media, and solutions for analyses.
  • Use LIMS to record data and generate certificates of analysis.
  • Communicate results to production management and customers as required.
  • Provide training and guidance to new staff under supervision.

Grain Processing Corporation, a member of the KENT® Corporation family of companies has an exciting opportunity to join their team as a Quality Control Analyst! The Quality Control Analyst will perform testing on defined routine samples of products produced by Grain Processing Corporation, as well as additional special testing or projects as directed by the Analytical Services Manager or Department Chemists. Analysts will also do routine instrument calibrations and maintenance.

  • This position is designed and intended to be performed in Washington, IN.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform the required analytical testing for each lab and take action regarding the results.
  • Perform special assays as required in each lab and take action as needed.
  • Perform maintenance and calibrations on laboratory equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment when needed.
  • Work on special projects related to method/instrument development and validation as directed by the manager or chemist.
  • Prepare and standardize chemical solutions and media necessary for the lab.
  • Know and use good lab practices. This involves proper cleanup of the lab areas and good safety habits.
  • Properly use Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), the system used to store all lab data.
  • Provide training and instruction to new and existing employees as directed by the Analytical Services Manager.
  • Communicate with customers and production management to resolve issues and take appropriate action when problems arise.
  • Maintain good communication with all Analytical Services co-workers, Analytical Services Management and Chemists, and Production personnel.
  • Issue and validate certificates of analysis for customer shipments and approve product shipments for release.
  • Initiate and maintain a meaningful log for communication.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
  • Minimum of an associate's degree in a Science related discipline, preferably Chemistry or Biology.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous Laboratory experience preferred.
  • Ability to make decisions independently with little or no supervision.
  • Proven communication (oral and written), organizational, math, and computer skills.
  • Ability to pay attention to details.
OTHER
  • This position works a 12-hour rotating shift which includes working days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Overtime is required to cover vacancies, vacation, and training.
