Overview
The Quality Control Technician is responsible for daily quality checks across multiple production processes. Checks include process review, documentation, and product inspection. This position provides support to Production, Warehouse, Sanitation, Purchasing, and Maintenance, and involves clerical, analytical, and organizational skills. This position is for Night Shift M-TH until 4 shifts are established, then a Crew will be assigned.
Responsibilities
- Conduct daily food safety and quality in-process checks, including data entry, and report issues to authorized production personnel / quality management to work to resolve
- Conduct CCP & CQP verification checks to ensure process and products are compliant to customer, regulatory, and internal requirements
- Stay informed of what products are running/changeovers and ensure correct packaging materials/labels are being used at all times
- Review Production quality and food safety documentation to ensure documents are complete, accurate, and legible as well as review for any pertinent issues warranting further investigation
- Conduct physical product testing including, but not limited to, weight checks, strength, diameter, width, length, moisture, color, and particle size
- Initiate contamination, quality problem reports, NCIC, and liquid event forms as needed
- Assist with investigative and verification swabbing as needed for liquid events and EMP follow up when the QA Admin is not available
- Place any questionable product/packaging/ingredients on “hold” status, communicate to applicable personnel, contribute to collecting information for the purpose of root cause analysis
- Perform post cleaning and pre-operational evaluations to ensure sanitary standards are met (i.e., ATP testing, allergen testing, visual inspections, etc.)
- Maintain quality spreadsheets, data entry, and records
- Conduct internal audits (i.e., facility inspections, glass and brittle plastic, food security) to ensure compliance with regulatory agency, SQF Code, and internal requirements
- Conduct finished product sampling and microbiological laboratory analysis based on customer & internal requirements
- Assist with quality issues and food safety issues based on in-process checks, case audits, or requests by production, quality, or management
- Assist with Finished Product Retention and Sensory programs
- Review traceability documentation to ensure accuracy
- Complete analytical testing as defined by supervisor
- Assist with all R&D projects, such as conducting various tests on the finished products
- Provide assistance to operations to ensure overall quality remains high
- Coach all new and current employees on quality and food safety practices and issues and report violations
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Essential Functions
- Able to identify and accurately report defective materials, food safety hazards, and potential product contaminants

- Attention to detail and ability to use measuring equipment required.
- Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw a valid conclusion
- Able to adhere to Good Manufacturing Policies (GMP) and abide by all procedures pertaining to allergen control
- Involves regular computer systems/software operation and use of office equipment
- Must have full use of arms and legs, be able to stand on a continuous basis, and be able to climb stairs to access all areas of the plant and offices regularly
- Must possess manual dexterity and perform repetitive tasks up to 12 hours per day
- Must be able to frequently walk, use hands to grip, pinch, handle, reach, or feel
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs., push or pull with up to 30 lbs. of force, stoop, kneel, climb or squat
- Adherence to the company attendance policy is required, which includes expectations of punctuality and limited unapproved absences
- Must be highly motivated and able to work well independently and in a team environment
- Must have a demonstrated record of professionalism, cooperation, and excellent communication
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Computer proficiency required with strong background in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Knowledge of HACCP, GMP, Food Security and other food safety programs required
- Experience in Quality Assurance preferred
- Candidate needs strong knowledge of the facility manufacturing operations and product quality expectations
- Must have demonstrated good work habits and attendance
- Knowledge/experience with SPC systems beneficial, but not required
Pay Range
Starting from USD $26.51/Hr.
