Position Summary:

Assist the Food Safety & Quality Manager in overseeing the day-to-day plant operations of the Department and monitoring plant processes to ensure that the regulatory, business, and customers’ quality and food safety requirements are achieved and maintained.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure continuous improvement and adequacy of quality systems to support regulatory, business and customer expectations.

  • Assist FSQA Manager in developing, implementing, maintaining, and reassess food safety & quality management systems ensuring regulatory compliance and alignment with company objectives.

  • Supervise, train and direct food safety & quality staff on responsibilities, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) other food related policies.

  • Participate and assist in various employees’ Food Safety and Quality training, including developing and loading training into company platforms (e.g., Alchemy).

  • Communicate with other departmental personnel to meet food safety and quality compliance, and assist other departments as needed or requested.

  • Must be able to oversee/perform pre-operational inspections and release the processing room for daily operations promptly.

  • Audit quality control of raw materials, packaging components, labels, and finished products to ensure compliance with established specifications and regulatory standards.

  • Set QA/QC compliance objectives and ensure that targets are achieved.

  • Assist in the investigation of food safety incidents and customer complaints, providing functional support to the team as required.

  • Aid in creating and implementing policies and procedures that will improve day-to-day operations.

  • Assist in 3rd Party (GFSI, GMP, Customer, Government, etc.) audits as required.

  • Review all food safety & quality QC record keeping documents such as; production, /maintenance, sanitation, shipping, receiving records and other manufacturing-related documents.

  • Verify compliance and record keeping for all mandated manufacturing processes, quality checks, testing, sampling, and sanitation activities.

  • Perform recalls, mock recalls, etc. as needed.

  • Assist in the coordination of testing results involving finished products,raw materials, and packaging components.

  • Oversee the “On Hold” product program, including the status, release, and destruction of “Rejected” products.

  • Act as a backup for team members when technician/coordinator and manager is not available.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Knowledge of government regulations (U.S.: USDA, FDA | Canada: CFIA,Health Canada) pertaining to food safety and quality

  • Must be detail-oriented and display good project management and organizational skills.

  • Must be able to prioritize, and schedule accordingly, on multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Must possess and display excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to produce results through effective, cross-functional teams and partnerships, working collaboratively with a variety of teams and individuals, including possessing the willingness to engage with others and be challenged.

  • Must have the ability to listen, interpret, and determine appropriate direction based on established protocols, or identify needs for new or revised protocols and lead their development and implementation.

  • Interpersonal skills include the ability to work independently and in a team environment, coaching, and mentoring skills.

  • Leadership abilities and a positive attitude with a commitment to personal and professional success.

  • This position requires a professional demeanor, honesty, integrity, drive, tenacity, determination, and a willingness to learn.

  • Google Apps (Chrome, Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, etc...)

  • Knowledge of product information and inventory control management systems preferred

Minimum Years of Experience:

  • At least four years previous food service, manufacturing and/or distribution product food safety and quality experience; including two years of progressive leadership experience.
